Nvidia 30.82 drivers

Regular
It seems that Nvidia upped the driver version to 30.82.
It was a little strange to see last week, that my new contact had these drivers on their site and Nvidia still was using 30.42.

New nvidia DetonatorXP is claiming 30-50% performance increase

Detonator XP software provides a 30-to-50% increase in performance for all NVIDIA GPUs in both DirectX and OpenGL Application Programming Interfaces (API). In addition, Detonator XP software exposes new hardware acceleration for Windows XP, enabling new features such as 3D textures and shadow buffers.

Now both Catalyst and Detonator are capable to improve in up to 50% my gaming experience

I will wait the Asus version to test it.

yes, 30.82 were leaked last week but these are now official. Good drivers, shame detonator 5 won't be out untill NV30 :(

pascal, I believe this quote is old, it relateds to the launch of the first detonatorXP drivers (GF4 launch timeframe?), not this specific set. the first detonator XP set boosted performance a nice amount for GF3+ class hardware, but certainly nowhere near 30-50% ...

Exactly!

This is related to the first release of the DetonatorXP drivers and not the recently offically released WHQL 30.82 detonator set.

humm, then sorry.

Then it was the Catalyst marketing that copied the DenotatorXP marketing, not vice-versa.

It's kinda weird how everything Nvidia does is eventually copied by ATI

The Catalyst drivers, their website, the design of the crossbar memory controller, etc...

Although I can't blame them for doing so :)

nVidia has been claiming similar performance improvements for their new drivers since the original Detonator drivers, released around the time of the TNT2's launch (give or take a couple of months...I forget the timeframe exactly). As I recall, those original Detonators' biggest improvement was for machines based on the AMD K6-2, where finally the Voodoo's weren't the fastest. There was also a rumor that got started (I think by STB, or 3dfx, I forget...) that the "Detonator" drivers would fry your PC :)

If I recall correctly, ATI claimed 50% driver improvements with the Rage Pro cards way back when too. :p Although it was probably true, considering the nature of the drivers back then...

Chalnoth:

I think it was STB that did that, and Brian Burke was the one who said it. Not too sure though.... kinda ironic now, because he works at NVIDIA now.

Weren't Detonator XP's released last fall to disrupt the 8500 release? The drivers did a considerable boost which put the original Geforce 3 ahead of the beta drivers and test boards that the 8500 was using at the time... Although when finally released the 8500 was on top of the original Geforce 3 in performance, it still wasn't quite up to the Geforce 3 Ti 500 yet...
