GoGoGADGET PS3! Welcome back to the fight Sony.

Nice ODST numbers. Beatles > GH5 and 2 of the beatles sku's in the Top10.

Haha, NPD killed GAF completely.

Sorta disappointing for Beatles Rock Band (but then it is ahead of GH5). Great numbers for ODST. Surprised to see Batman PS3 still around.

All numbers higher than I thought esp the wii, Then I looked up the wii pricecut happened on sep27th thus that would of helped sales

I was wondering if you or anyone else could explain how to read the trend charts? (they always confuse me )
sorry trend wasnt meant to be there (remnant from something else)
its just an average of the X previous months, though in a sense it does show the trends esp in 12+24 month charts

NFS Shift and Dirt 2 appear to be out of the race...

Interesting.. slightly different list from IGN:

Halo 3: ODST - 1.5 Million (Xbox 360)
Wii Sports Resort W/ Wii Motion Plus - 442,885 (Wii)
Madden NFL 10 - 289,596 (Xbox 360)
Madden NFL 10 - 246,526 (PlayStation 3)
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 - 236,017 (Xbox 360)
Batman: Arkham Asylum - 207,844 (PlayStation 3)
Batman: Arkham Asylum - 202,034 (Xbox 360)
The Beatles: Rock Band - 198,299 (Xbox 360)
Wii Fit W/ Balance Board - 133,930 (Wii)

Kotaku and Joystiq seem to have the same numbers as NeoGAF, though I don't know if they receive them themselves or just crib them from the GAF thread (who supposedly get them directly from NPD, as a deal to crack down heavily on any leaks).

Hmm... is it just me or 3 weeks of Beatles: RB came up way short? GH5 it's less shocking (brand fatigue, etc.) but THE BEATLES?

It's what I was thinking. Guess Activision killed the music game market for everyone else, too. And the Beatles licensing wasn't cheap.

ODST 1.5 million dang. And with the holiday season starting should have good legs.

PS3 nice boost in sales. Seems to have helped with cross platform titles with new buyers being more likely to pick up games when they buy their console.

Still I expected to see more than 2 PS3 titles in the top 10 with the boost in PS3 sales. I imagine Oct. should be even better for PS3 with Uncharted 2.

Anyway have last years numbers for consoles? I'm wondering how X360 did compared to this time last year.

Overall, better numbers than I expected for everyone. Except ODST it pretty much hit right on the mark of what I expected (1-2 million).

Regards,
SB

See, I'd say it's the other way around. I would of for sure banked on GH5 owning on all platforms. Beatles brings 43 songs to the table. I think the fact that you can have a single "expansion pack" by a band outsell the next iteration of rhythm based gaming is key. This isn't even taking into account what the Rock Band Network and the entire beatles discography bring to the table.

People still buying PS3 as a media player? Can we really expect these people to buy games? Some, yes. Most, no.

I'm not sure who would be buying a PS3 now solely as a Media Player. There's cheaper BluRay players available now. Granted, I know people that buy X360's purely as a media player (Netflix), does PS3 have a similar service?

I think it's probably more likely that new PS3 buyers might be buying more older games (platinum titles). I'd be interested to see what the top 20 looks like. Software sales for PS3 might look a touch better then.

SB

According to an August study by NPD Group, 34% of PS3 owners had never tried to watch Blu-ray movies on their machine. That result is virtually unchanged from responses given during a similar study in August 2008.

When NPD asked PS3 owners in August why they purchased the console, 58% said it was mostly to play games; 34% said it was for enjoying games and Blu-ray movies equally; and 8% said mostly for Blu-ray movies. The responses were consistent with similar NPD research a year earlier.

Would be interesting to see next year's mix as more casual folks join the crowd. And as Blu-ray matures.
