Impressive 360 numbers, especially considering how there are only 2 360 games on the list. Lackluster Wii, I suppose, again considering that almost half the list is Wii. PS3 is... well, not surprising, I guess?

Dayum GINA!!!!! completely forgot about NPD day :(

Nice 360 numbers. Wii come down for the Heavens finally. PS3 certainly will benefit from the coming price cut as the current numbers are poor.

Really surprised to see FNR4 still charting.

Last generation's definition of casual gamers (ie. Madden players) join forces with this generation's casual gamers (Wii Sports players) and take over the charts. Gaming as we know it is DOOMed.;)

And Wii Fit is back on the charts. :)

I'm thinking the Wii Fad might have passed, and it's going to be back down to normal console numbers here for the rest of its life.

It'll be interesting if 10 years from now, it'll be viewed in a similar light as the Tomagotchi (however you spell it), or any number of consumer fads. Albeit a much more successful one in that it also had attach rates for other things like software and accessories.

Next month will be interesting to see how August 09 compares to August 08 for X360, since that's when the price cuts first hit.

And dang, Nintendo virtually sweeping the top 10. 4 Wii, 3 NDS, 2 X360, 1 PS3.

Regards,
SB

I wouldn't call it struggling when it still leads the other consoles in sales.

I'd just say it's coming back to reality and having normal console sales versus fever driven fad like sales.

SB

"Struggling" in this respect could relate to the guidance Nintendo gave its shareholders, the same goes for Sony and Microsoft. Microsoft I believe gave "flat", Sony gave "13 Million", and Nintendo gave "27 Million" as sold-in numbers. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

In that case, yeah, both Sony and Nintendo would be considered to be struggling.

Milestone reached
after 33 straight months of increasing marketshare, july was the first month where the wii's marketshare actually went down,
FWIW for posterities sake unless something drastic happens to boost wii's sales during the next few of years
wii's peak was 46.758% in june2009

I dont see how Sony is going to make 13 million..the first Q they shipped 1.1. So that leaves 11.9 they need over the remaing three Q's. Lets aim very low and say they ship 1.1 each of the next two slow Q's, that would mean they'd need to ship 9.7 in holiday Q. For comparison 360 shipped 6m and PS3 4. some m last Dec Q.

Of course it's easy for Sony to change the forecast, theyve done it in the past.

PS3 hardware underperforms for the month. That still translates into a tiny, tiny gain in LTD share, but only because the Wii's hotness has decreased even more sharply, relatively speaking.

Slim/price cut/both can't come soon enough.

Interesting stuff! I guess thats why Microsoft isn't so much in a hurry to cut the price.

They did drop the price, last September. That's what allowed them to dwell on yoy comparisons so much. Parity with last year is probably less than they had hoped for, but console hardware in general is way down. Current economic climate something something.

Yeah, I know all about that.
