NPD July 2009

Right. I consider $20 to be significant, especially if we're talking about a $100 dollar difference between arcade and pro/elite. Certainly more significant than 256/512M of built-in flash memory or a cable.

Well of course 20$ is significant, but if the Elite costs only 20-30$ more to make than the Arcade, then it shouldn't be that big of a stretch that MS could lessen the 100$ retail price gap between the units to something like 70$.

Hmmm, 7 Wii, 5 NDS, 5 X360, 2 PS3, and 1 PS2...

Wii hardware sales might be down but it's attach rate is going up. PS3 just isn't looking pretty from an overall software PoV.

Also interesting, that Halo 3, CoD MW/WAW are finally pushed out of the Top 20.

I wonder if this could be due to people now pre-ordering Halo ODST and MW2 rather than buying Halo 3 and CoD MW/WAW?

Since last year when the PS3 overtook the 360 for 3 months (the may to july period that some people believed was the turning point where the ps3 would move on to overtake the 360) the 360 has outsold the ps3 by over 2million units in the US.

How much impact is the ps3 price cut going to have? I think its far too late for the ps3 to ever catch the 360 in north america (it would have to outsell it by 120k units a month for 5 years to pull even), but can it stay even or even pull ahead in monthly sales at this point? I certainly expect it to spike ahead with the cut, but I don't think it will maintain.

Since the Pro and Elite X360 are now generally at the same price point as the Slim and are somewhat in direct competition with each other. Is there anyway to know how the Arcade model sales compare to the other X360 models?

NPD is predicting a 40-60% increase in sales for PS3. I think 60% is overly optimistic but even if that occurred it still would not match its nearest competitor (going by JUL NPD). From an IR standpoint I'm not sure how I feel about that, it will be interesting next call to see which quarter the slims costs will be placed.
So more details it's their prediction for September.
60% increase with this month data data still be slightly less than the 360.

In Canada, a new Elite bundle has been surfacing at various retailers.

Xbox 360 Elite + Wireless Adapter + Halo 3 for $329 CDN (~$304 USD)

Could this replace the Elite SKU in the US as well?

Personally I don't see it coming to the US. More like a specific country thing, but I have a hat just in case I'm wrong. LOL

It would be interesting if that was a move to start clearing the channel of wireless adapters if MS were introducing a new SKU with built in wireless. Just wild speculation mind you.

Personally I like it better if they just leave out the wireless adapter and price it cheaper.

Or they're about to release a replacement that supports Wireless N. LOL

I originally was going to agree, but then I started thinking it would be nice to have built-in wireless. But now thinking about it again, not sure I could give up my faster 100Mb/s connection to the router that's only sitting 1.5ft away. Tough call there. If it was "free", then no need not to include it. But we all know not all things are free.

I think building in a WiFi adapter should be extremely cheap now - though of course \there is an advantage, as suggested, of being able to upgrade it to newer standards, but I would imagine that if they do a redesign, they're going to include it on the mobo or something like that.

Why? MS is making lots of cash on their overpriced official adapter.
