No more cardboard cutouts in GT4!

Uhm, doesn't this contradict the E3 trailer? I was impresed by the footage, until those extremely ugly cardboard cutouts appeared as crowd in the rally sequence. They looked so ridiculous I actually stopped the trailer right there, that's why I remember them so vividly...

eehm, they are still carboard

I ve seen a trailer where the driver was fully animated and the crowd was (at least near the road) fully 3d and reacting

Make that 2D and animated (they can move from left to right and right to left, or can turn a little when a car moves).

They are polygon models now:

Not very detailed, but they come in masses:

I wonder if really all of them have an own physic engine. ;)

Well in GT4 Prologue, on the Rally track, some of the spectators are 3D, and some are cardboard..

I don't think every single spectator will get a change, but it's at least refreshing to see sizable crowds that ARE more than a cutout. They'll likely be keeping some sections of crowd that are less-noticable in 2D to save a bit on the performance--or areas of really huge crowds to make sure no stuttering happens. It could also be something they show a bit more of during replays? (Especially since your persepctive moves around a lot and would see more of the crowds.)

It's pretty cool, and likely still a process being added in where they can, but I don't see them giving it dominance over any other feature in the game.

Anyone know why the perspective on those three white banners on the right of that top pic is all wrong?

You just have to find some silly stuff to criticise about PS2 or its games, don't you? And if you had actually spent more than one second looking at the picture you'd see that it's a downward slope. Use your brain next time. I only registered because I'm sick of having to read posts like that from you.

That scene isn't from San Francisco so it shouldn't be that much off. It's also a grand stand not a house. ;)

Speaking of Ninja Edit...hmm..I like that term. ;) Can it be used in conjunction with deletes?

Yee-ouch.

At any rate, he's right. The flags mainly look out of place because the road underneath if going sloped down. The bandstand railings look fine overall and have basically the same proportional length as the flags below, but since the flags are longer the difference seems greater, and since the road is right underneath and not level... Just an optical illusion.

After all, just what in heck would they be doing to skew the perspective of what's all likely the same model?

Content of the DVD:

- Making Of A Driver (The best part, really well done, shows all the GT creators drive different cars and giving driving tips)

- Behind The Scenes (Just some random impressions of the track work where they sampled all the data)

- Grant Turismo 4 Trailer (Already seen this one)

- Gallery (Ingame and making off pictures with the GT guys and a lot of nice cars and track shots. You can see where they got the data for the textures of the already known tracks)
