I think Davros is confused because in the PC world buying a game on disc is basically a strange and inefficient way of purchasing a download code, whereas on consoles it is an inconvenient physical key that can sort of be played without downloading a game in theory and the only way to get some resale value currently.
If given the chance, I always prefer to buy physical copies so I can lend them to friends.
I've played quite the number of games that I borrowed from the same friends, too.
My PC hasn't seen an optical drive in about 4 years, I think.
Mandatory 60fps for Pro and Base version of a game for this to happen.
Pro already does native 1080p 60 FPS, though obviously with a much reduced FOV. Base version could run at sub-1080p with foveated resolution like so many other games.
Nothing non-scalable in the game seems really demanding, though. Geometry seems simple enough that to increase framerate they could just decrease render distance. Particle and lighting effects seem nice but those too can be downgraded or just taken away for VR.
In the end, it doesn't seem impossible to me.
From interviews, I think it's going to happen, but I fear it'll happen behind a paywall premium for VR, like Driveclub for example.
