Nintendo Switch Revelation

Looks like it could be fun but I don't expect low pricing. Also seems like it doesn't fit the same kind of gaming as the 3DS, I wonder if they will just sell both for a long time.

This looks like the least kiddy machine Nintendo has ever released. It actually looks like it could be an Nvidia Shield tablet, though without a touch screen (maybe).

If this is successful, I think Nintendo has signaled that they are essentially leaving the dedicated console market.

Holy smokes that video is bad. Looks like every generic corporate video ever produced, and that song, SO BAD. Reminds me of the very worst Sony and MS e3 style corporate vomit fests.

I'm impressed Nintendo can still garner this level of interest. Neogaf is down for me. May be partly because of RDR trailer too, but still. Would the next iterative console get this much interest? Well I doubt any PS4 Pro reveal did so we already have our answer...

ALL THAT SAID

This is clearly another Nintendo disaster on the level of the Wii U in the making. The thing will be bulky (and probably low res) as heck as a tablet. People will laugh at it. Of course, concern #1, 1A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 are the power. And the mobile form factor means it wont have enough. The specs bandied about in the tech thread look like something probably just a bit above PS360 level, basically as we expected based on the rumors.

Concern #11, 12, 13, 14, and 15, cost. With that screen, and the Nintendo tax. 399 is a lock IMO. OK, maybe you could make a case some cut down version with 16 GB of storage or something Nintendo style stupid, could make 299, but that's the absolute best you're gonna get. Meanwhile 4.2 TF Pro and 6TF Scorpio will be sitting there for probably 399 (the former already confirmed).

I dont know, maybe I'm wrong about all this, maybe people want this. One main problem with mobile gaming attracting core gamers (besides small displays and lack of power) is the controls suck. And this attempts to address that.

But in general, this is really a lot like the Wii U IMO. And I cant expect the market outcome to be much different. Heck, it's complete with the last gen ports being touted. Skyrim...yeah, cause I mean that's the pinnacle of gaming hotness right now right? Or it's the same half hearted few last gen ports that plagued the Wii U.

I'm telling Nintendo, take this chipset (or beef it up considerably even in non mobile form), but it in a little dinky Ouya style thing, make it download only, put in a retro controller and go heavily retro focused with SNES and NES ports, and use your teraflop on 3D mario and zelda, price it all at 199.

Its everything I thought it would be based on the hybrid rumors. I think its going to be insanely popular in Japan, and probably about as popular as the 3DS in the rest of the world. Price point will be significant.

I had a strong nVidia vibe when I first saw the Switch, even the name is nVidia-like. The whole thing just feels more like something nVidia would do, not Nintendo.
Where's the surprise and innovative features that Nintendo was so afraid everybody would copy if they showed it too soon.
This is just underpowered home console and a clumsy handheld, only remotely interesting feature is the ability to multiplay "lan style".
Unless the price point will be around $250, I don't see the point.

Looks like a marriage of the Shield K1 and the Shield TV, powered by nVidia's newest Tegra chipset and supposedly some version of Polaris. I don't know how these latest Tegra chipsets compare, I do know my ShieldTV is close to as powerful as my XB1.

Yes, my feelings as well. I know there have been rumors of a new ShieldTV coming out, I wonder if there was an agreement to kill that product. It wouldn't have the capabilities of the Switch, but it would be less costly and seems like a direct competitor in terms of performance (or portability if they make another K1).

"If a Nintendo Switch game supports amiibo then the Nintendo Switch home gaming system will as well," a Nintendo representative told IGN. The main unit of Nintendo Switch is the unit that has the LCD screen, which the two Joy-Con controllers can be attached to and detached from. The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system".

According to Nintendo, the Joy-Con controllers — named Joy-Con L and Joy-Con R — will be included alongside the Nintendo Switch system. When asked if the Nintendo Switch will have touchscreen support, Nintendo declined to comment.

What if Nintendo sold a tablet+joycon controllers and a docking base separately, consumer could buy two docking bases to be used at the living room and kids room. One tablet device at the house to move around.

Only one of these two things would make me support the Switch.

1. They give us something substantially more than a bunch of Mario IPs. Enough so that I can skip half of the high profile games and still have plenty of things to play every year.

2. They have a hdmi-in and support gaming on the PS4 or xb1 through their tablet. If psvr allows it, then I don't see why not. LOL.

What would be the point of that? If its through HDMI is not cordless/mobile. Why would you want to play a PS4 game on a tethered Nintendo Switch? o_O

I like the concept, I hope it does well.
I actually see no point in the removable mini twin controllers, the dock looks neat but I'm far from convince by its utility.
I end going back to an earlier POV, Nintendo is a little scare of selling a handheld at a serious price so they added of extra feature to soften the deal. Ultimately it is a handheld that might sell above 200€ so I definitely see a risk.
Speaking only for my-self here but I would really enjoy having a handheld but I don't want to spend much. I was in the US and I hesitated buying a 2DS because of the new 3DS and the upcoming NX. I passed it is a little too old and I'm asking for a little more capable system.
There is a void and I don't see the Switch filing it for me: as it is likely to be too expensive not to mention i would like to be able to play with my wife (anywhere in the house, like in bed or in different rooms which require 2 devices).

Overall I still don't understand Nintendo.

I'm curious.

What you guys think the battery life on this thing will be like? I'd be impressed if it lasted even 4hrs with all this wireless craziness going on.

And online support? This has been Nintendo's nightmare feature. Like they really don't wanna do online at allllll.......

I still kinda want one

It actually WOULD be kinda cool to be able to take console style games on the go with decent controls.

I would like to see what kind of library they come up with. If it doesn't have core 3rd party games, and it probably wont, that will nerf some interest.

I hope it's 299. I doubt it will be, but if it was that's closer to a throwaway purchase.

Can they get Destiny on this thing?

PS, is neogaf down for you all or just me? Down for everyone.com says just me..
