Ninja Theory's new game: Enslaved

I hope it plays better than Heavenly Sword.
I'm playing it now and I am very annoyed with the motion control gameplay areas.

Looking at how Uibsoft have made so many iteration of LEAD engine which is nothing but a heavily modified UE2.5 ...I'd say maybe. Also is the Anvil engine something that Ubisoft built totally from scratch or is it another iteration of LEAD ?

What interests me:

when you heavily modify the engine...when is the point where you say that it is your engine now beecause of the massive changes and that you are now not willing to pay fees anymore for it...without getting problems with law!?

Well I wouldn't be surprised if Enslaved would be completely devoid of motion controls, no longer being exclusive.

However, the motion control gameplay in Heavenly Sword were highlights for me. It was a truly novel gameplay experience and I really liked it.

You can just switch off the motion controls & use analogue stick instead.

WHAT!!! I didn't know that.
I will try it tonight as I'm stuck at that irritating character in the bird like cage.

I have a feeling that I'm close to finishing the game. It feels a bit on the short side--I wish it was longer as the cut scenes/story have been nice.

I need to decide what's next for me while I wait for after E3 to buy a new X360.

Either the original Uncharted or Killzone 2. Both can be bought preowned for ~$27 or new for ~$30. I'm leaning towards Uncharted as I really didn't like the feel of the KZ2 demo.

I suspect the preowned will actually be new like Heavenly Sword with the shrink wrap removed.

OT: A demo will make or break this game for me as I am mostly disappointed in HS right now. It really is too bad as the game has the potential to really be great and I love hack and slash games.

Hopefully the terrible image quality in the trailer is just a result of poor video compression. Love the expressive character models though, the faces in particular.

Link is not werking: "The URL contained a malformed video ID."

I think it's this one ?

So Monkey does travel on a cloud. ^_^

Journey to the West much huh? At least it's not a direct translation of the story, like Dante's Inferno. Otherwise I'd be pissed.

Huh ? Dante's Inferno is a direct translation of Journey to the West ? That's interesting in an unexpected way.

It has a monk and 3 disciples (and a ride) fighting hoardes of monsters ?

No I meant that I'd be pissed if someone tried to create a game purely out of the Journey to the West story, instead of just adapting into something different yet still coherently the same in plot, etc. After Dante's Inferno, I'm just done with the idea. I guess I should be pissed about Genji too, but at least those games were decent.

Develop: How a movie screenwriter helped save Enslaved's story:
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/16/develop-how-a-movie-screenwriter-helped-save-enslaveds-story/

As the writer behind movies like Sunshine and 28 Days Later, Garland had a feel for how to get the most drama out of Enslaved's story scenes, Antonaides said. Garland would write scenes with very simple, reductive dialogue that looked thin on the page, Antonaides said, but gained more "meat" with an actor's performance behind them.

...

Antonaides said they ended up cutting the game's cutscenes down from two hours of dialogue to a lean 80 minutes, with less focus on exposition and more on drama. "If you have too much dialogue, it doesn't work," ...

Thanks, interesting read. Tameem still doesn't get the fact that he's making a game, not saying that they shouldn't pay attention to story and dialogue but they're still trying to sell the game as a movie experience instead of concentrating on the gameplay and highlighting the gameplay, and nothing they're shown so far on the gameplay was really all that interesting.

I thought the article implies that he's not spending much on cutscenes. Instead he's focusing on the game itself, and tells the story via in-game action ?

If you're complaining about the combat, I think there's ground for concern. Haven't really seen the fighting yet, except for chase scenes.

Bah... I can't watch YouTube from China. Does it show regular grunt fight or a mini boss fight ? Grunt fight is where Heavenly Sword needed a boost.

Regular grunt fights as far as I can tell, no bosses and only Monkey in sight. It looks pretty good - it has basically all elements from shooters and action platformers combined, bringing in good and deep melee fighting with Tomb Raider style platforming and unreal engine style shooting. The art style leans towards Uncharted mixed with Heavenly Sword, and is colorful, but in my humble opinion it doesn't look as good as either, and I'm inclined to blame the limitations of Unreal Engine 3 as the typical problems stand out a lot. The gameplay looks pretty good though.
