Yeah, right.I don't see many PVR devices outside of Vita and Apple.
Apple products alone mean PVR is in roughly every third mobile device (including tablets) worldwide, though

I don't see many PVR devices outside of Vita and Apple. Tegra certainly has a lot more prominence in Android devices, along with Mali and Snapdragon - almost every Android device I read about is one of those three, but never anything ImgTec.
The PS4 is apparently the most anticipated console of all time and has unprecedented levels of demand, according to MCV.

Where's you data on this. I've just been looking and found this:Kindle Fires also have PVR GPU's.
PowerVR is in most of the SoC that's in Tablets & Smartphones.
Of course, there's no breakdown there. That could be 50% of tablets by model, but not by sales. I'm just seeing very little evidence that PVR is massively popular outside of Apple (although the Kindle is news to me, and Samsung are switching over)."Indeed, Mali GPUs can be found in more than 70% of graphics-enabled Digital TVs, in over 50% of all Android tablets and 20% of all Android smartphones."
With a $600 launch price it is no wonderPS3 was also the most anticipated console of all time before it released. That didn't help it much after the first couple weeks, though.

There was a $500 SKU you know. And back then, I don't think the extra 40GB between the SKUs really did that much for you.
Still expensive and missed a few extra features
40GB of hard drive space, a card reader, and a chrome trim. Hardly worth $100.
The 20GB model didn't have wifi either. That alone could've been a deal breaker for some. Obviously wasn't a big deal for me seeing as how I got the 20GB model on launch.40GB of hard drive space, a card reader, and a chrome trim. Hardly worth $100.
Compare 20 GB vs. 60 GB PS3 to the two SKUs of Wii U. The more expensive option is the one people who do want a Wii U care to buy, because the cheapo one is a bit too gimped. It's fairly often the case that the entry level box is only there to tick a price-point checkbox, and reality everything costs more than the bare minimum when you've added necessary extras.
60GB vs 20GB was a bigger deal back then than you make it sound. 20GB model was limited in numbers and wasn't even released in Europe.

Not true! My ps3 was 20gb. (but it was 6 month after launch)

The 60 gb vs 20 gb has another factor. For most consumers the higher number sounds very impressive, which probably explains why the 20gb didn't sell well..
Similarly how the xb360 was perceived as a alot cheaper although launch models "required" you to purchase buy a wifi dongle ($70) + rechargeable batteries ($30) etc. similarly the core didn't sell well as the core seemed vastly inferior
