So voice commands are cool now?

Uh? Voice commands in general suck ass to such a degree it's not even funny, the only Console i think can even begin to think about making it anything but a complete and utter annoyance is the XB1. I expect the PS4 to be more flawed in this regard. And my post was making fun of the silly long sentences we end up saying to the consoles because of the ever evolving naming scheme on games.

But why are you asking me that question, you got something you want to get off your chest?

No , all is good ... i just didn't understand your post - btw i agree .

I'm thinking maybe a one-time online activation could be linked to a payment for playback licensing. It would give Sony the record of how many hardware units are enabling BR, and legally they could get away with paying the license only for those units.

That's what I also thought, was about to do a similar post.

This way, they may be able to defer BR royalty payments, until the units are sold AND updated. Not that it will take a while to clear the PS4 stocks, but they've been producing PS4's for a while to meet the demand and why pay that upfront when you can defer it to some point in time later.

It could also be a simple matter of not finalizing / buggy / not up to spec blu-ray media play on the 1.0 firmware that they didn't want to simply delay the production for, so they disable that on the initial production units.

One-time Internet connection required to enable DVD/Blu-Ray playback?

The irony of the PS4 needing to connect to the internet before it can play movies is just too hysterical. I'm sure this irony will be lost on the forum warriors though.

Yeah, well, who cares, really? Except for rabid fanboys I mean, and they don't count. In this day and age all gamers have internet connections, so a day-one patch is of no concern at all, or at least as long as sony's infrastructure doesn't collapse into a huge smoking crater from the load of hundreds of thousands of systems being switched on moments after midnight on launchday. ;)

Or millions as it might be!!

MS asking you for a mandatory connection online: fugly chick asking you out on a date

Sony slyly getting you to connect online: holding the door open on a date with a hot chick

It's a one time ordeal though. Different from no used game sales. And unknown frequency online check at that time. MS only clarified the 24 hour check later.

They never said we would ever have to update the firmware !

Pre-order canceled

That seems like a very weird reason to cancel your pre-order! You do realise that the list of features are already included. The update just licences the blu-ray and adds a couple of features.

I'm putting fingers in my ears and refuse to listen!
It would have been perfect, Imagine a world with no updates ever, a perfect console out of the box, it's the forum warriors fault, they wanted "new features", curse them!

I hooked up a Blu-ray surround sound system for my cousin & her husband a few months ago & it couldn't play Blu-rays or DVDs until it did an FW update.

Also Xbox 360 & PS3 have to do the same thing for some formats.

I just read about PS4 games "sharing". For disc based games, basically it can be played on any console as long as the disc is inside. For digital download, outside of the primary console, the owner can play the game on any PS4 and access to the plus benefit also only accessible to that PSN account.
As for the primary console, basically you can attach your account to a single console as the primary. Anything you purchased and the PS+ benefits are accessible to all the accounts on your primary console. So basically any games you purchased can be used by other account only on your primary console. The owner can also play the same game simultaneously on other console while the game is being played on other account on your primary console.
I want to post a link but it's a bit cumbersome on mobile so perhaps someone else could find the links and post it here.

I don't know how it currently works in PS3, but this is not really games sharing. Of course I might read the article wrongly since I'm reading it while watching Formula 1 and MotoGP.

Seriously, "hysterical"? There's no accounting for people's sense of humour but still. Of course, if it's a ploy to enflame fanboys, do carry on.

Whilst it's a buzzkill, it's not a core feature, and the downside of a bug in suspend/resume is rather extreme. (failing to resume, and so losing your game state [or even potentially damaging the hardware] = bigger problem).

This was the feature I was very much looking forward too. Being able to skip the startup/ picking the game, booting it up, is a big deal for me as I rarely get opportunities to sit down and game for an hour stretch, most of my play sessions are short and furious. I hope they get it sorted in time for the second update.

So basically one PS4 per household. You can't share content you buy on your PS4 with other PS4's in the household, so you can't buy a second PS4, put it upstairs, and enjoy your content unless you sign in. 'Game sharing' is limited to one other person playing online as you do, basically playing with you. But only one (why can't 34/5 people play online with you just as they could play locally with you on one disc copy? I suppose there are added internet costs, but it's fairly weak).

This means lots of people should create family-wide accounts, with all the games bought and played on that account so that that account can sign in on different PS4's around the house. This makes a mockery of the friend and trophy systems.

Far worse than PS3 and not very practical over all. Fine for single gamers but poor for families. People need to start applying pressure to get things changed.

Shifty it's basically just like on the Xbox One. MS was touting Home Gold where everybody in the house can use Gold & PS4 is getting the same for PS+, except it only works for the "primary" PS4 system. <shrug> So yeah, you're loosing some sharing benefits compared to the PS3, but I don't see it being such a big deal. Looks like you're getting one benefit over losing another.
