Delayed to launch with a VR headset in 2014.
If Driveclub is delayed that makes 2 of 3 games I intended on buying on launch day no longer available. If true, I may cancel my pre-order since I don't think Battlefield 4 on its own is going to tide me over for 5 months. It also would mean that PS+ is worthless other than for multiplayer within the launch window. . .

It doesn't make PS+ worthless by a long shot. There are a whole raft of games that will be available. Far more in fact than the competition has lined up. If none of those appeal to you then it is very unfortunate as they are very diverse indeed.
This is a PS4 thread.
For PS+ on the PS4 DriveClub was the hook, unless they toss in something like Minecraft for launch day I do not see much to justify the price beyond "I have no choice if I want to play multiplayer". It's irrelevant to me buying PS+ at launch if the game is not actually out yet ("Don't Starve" does not even have a date yet to my knowledge).
For non PS+ games the obvious omissions specifically for launch are:
no sandbox game (since Watchdogs is delayed)
no western style RPGs (and I believe no RPGs period)
I don't trust EA to handle the NFS franchise in a fun fashion so for me personally there are also no driving games to be had at launch. That means my 3 most favourite genres are not covered. Presumably I am not the only one out there that likes sandbox and RPG type games.
The only PSN game I definitely have interest in that is supposed to be there at launch is Minecraft. So it still looks like a significant drought, enough to make buying launch day questionable unless you mainly care about shooters or F2P (aka P2W).
Cheers
It's unfortunate that your focus is one genre, one game. It might not even be delayed yet, it is just a rumour after all. PS+ offers great value to anyone with a diverse interest in games. On launch day there will be a, literal, metric ton of content to play with. More than there has been for a console launch before.
One game is just that. One solitary single lonely game. If a delay actually happens, and that makes the game better then so be it. Until then broaden out a bit, step outside the box. We're just coming out of a generation dominated by mindless shoot them in the face games. Driven by one single factor. It's all change now, time to breath some fresh air!
Perfect timing:

Go see a PS4 demo near you.
Let's hope they use a stock unit.
There's one in Stanford Mall, near the new Apple Store.
Hahaha, i hope this kiosk includes some nefty cooling after the red heat light

what is the metric ton of content on PS+ ?
For a new ps4 owner there doesn't seem to be much if any content on ps+
