Seems more likely they'll bundle it with a surface.

Hopefully a 2nd gen Surface RT, 8" with >1080p display, Snapdragon 800, 2GB RAM. I'd be down with that. They better not peddle the first gen though, that thing needs to be shot in the shed. Tegra 3 is awful.

If Microsoft have half a warehouse full of Surface RT's they can't sell, they may as well bundle them for next to nothing with an Xbox One and recover some cash. And it increases the perceived value of your package.

Not exactly adding value though... More like including an impending disappointment in the box to tarnish the overall proposition!

Is the VITA hardware profitable? Seems like $500 for a PS4 and a Vita would potentially be a big loss on hardware dollars. This is probably the only way they can make the Vita attractive for people to buy. Integration with PS4 is probably the only thing that will potentially keep it from being a dead product.

The difference being it has the hardware\software support to back it up and it's going to be pretty tightly integrated into the PS4 experience.

any tablet device can be tightly woven to the Xbox one experience and you are vastly undervaluing the surface rt. It has much more value than a vita and much better support long term.

I've recently bought xperia sp, and it is PlayStation compatible. I don't think that either Sony or msft will ignore mobile devices

Depends on who sets the value?

A Surface RT might be cooler hardware wise etc, but it's so close to being anything but a portable browser for most people coming from iOS or the Android universe. This leaves us with Windows 8 users, that is, Windows 8 Metro users.

The Vita on the other hand is meant as a gaming device, and if PS+ continues as it did on the PS3 you will get even more value from your PS+ gaming experience.

I doubt that we will see really heavy usage of second screen gaming, it will in my mind always be an option, an extension to the game and never required.

Any mobile device can be tightly woven with any platform but any given mobile device isn't built with specific gaming platform in mind. The surface RT has no value, that's the main reason MS are sitting on warehouses full of them. Giving it away for free with the XBone would probably save MS money in the long run because they could use that space for other things.

The RT is effectively being killed by MS in favour of the rest of the surface line. I don't see it having any long term anything.

For me, the ability to play actual PS4 games using the Vita is far more appealing than whatever I can do through my iPad but I'll have the option of both.

I am intrigued to see how third parties use second screen support. The remote operation of the drone in The Division looked interesting, but I'd still rather be the guy on the ground than the guy in the sky.

Why does everyone hate buttons... how can Surface RT have more long term value than a Vita? Especially for gaming? That's just... wrong. Lol.

I want this generation to start already... so we can see just how little touchscreens will contribute to the experience of a console game. Or a PC game for that matter.

The only thing I think would be cool is looking at a map. I wouldn't mind playing PlanetSide 2 and using my phone to locate myself and the current territory control and finding my squad and such. It would be mostly a gimmicky feature... it would be kind of cool I guess. I think it would still be faster to just press the Map button though haha.

Yeah thats about the only reason I see to get it also. So you can play your ps4 games lying on your bed. Using the vita as a mirror in gran tourismo amongst other suggestions is just going to be not convenient

PS4 & Vita Bundle:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/sony-releasing-playstation-4-vita-bundle-for-500-report-6412555

Thought this would be interesting news and belong in this thread.

I think that would be a great bundle and great system (console & portable) seller. Great way to fight both Nintendo (3DS - biggest seller) and MS (360/One - Next) at the same time.

If true I would go for it. I wonder what the Vita costs to build now? Or by the end of the year?

If it is for launch...I will change my preorder to this!!! Cool!

I think Samsung could be the initial GDDR5 suppliers.

http://www.samsung.com/global/busin...t/graphic-dram/detail?productId=7824&iaId=759
The 4Gb parts says "Application: Gaming Console" and nothing else, I can't think of any other gaming console using 4Gb GDDR5. ;)

On Alibaba:
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/917049996/_IC_K4G41325FC.html
Supply Ability: 580000 Piece/Pieces per Day

580k / 16 chips * 30 days == 1 million consoles per month.

http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20130611PD207.html
The upstream supply chain reportedly has already started shipping orders for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) in June, and volumes may reach one million units per month.

Or maybe it's just a series of coincidences.

The 4Gb from Samsung though are organized in 128Mb x32.
DF said that PS4 has 512Mb x16.

Anyway nice find.

512MB * 16 chips, x16 clamshell I/O -> 8GB, 256-bit bus

128Mbit macro * 32 = 512MB, 32-bit external I/O or 16-bit in clamshell mode per chip
