New PS3 shots...

Interesting, can't help wondering what that would look like if there was some form of internal lighting, Guess you would need to switch it on find out whether it was some form of "special feature" tho.

holy fuck, i think you solved it. this makes perfect sense!
wow, i can't believe i didnt think of that.

i do think you're correct, but I suppose we wait till TGS to know for sure.

EDIT: What I mean is that @bobthebub's supposition fits.

Well I suppose that would depend on how it looks "lit up."
It could turn out looking ugly, or turn out looking rather good.

Either way I hope it has an off switch if this is all true, it could be a distraction in "dark room" gaming situations.

Yep, it definitely needs to be off-switchable if there indeed will be an inner light.
Otherwise it'll be too distracting in a home theater setup with a front projector. The less extra light there is the better the pic on your screen.

A light inside could look tacky too, like those terrible modded PC's!!

In that video linked above (with that cute german presenter ;) ) it showed clearly that at least the flap covering the memcard slots was semi-transparent, so maybe it indeed is true the whole console is such.
Maybe it'll have UV lights inside, and UV reactive liquid runnig in the heatpipes, making it look like it was a living organism with veins and such.... YUCK! That could be tacky if done without taste.

Personally, I'd prefer a solid black, but as long as it is very discreetly semi-transparent, as seems to be the case because in no other product photos the transparency has not been visible, I'll be able to live with that.
It's just that transparent cases are soo out of fashion already... However, I have trust in Sony design skills, so it won't be too garish.

It does sound a bit of an odd idea but I don't think Sony would do it unless it looked very cool, it would almost certainly be something that highlighted Blu-ray in some way.

Maybe a blue lit slot like the rev...err I mean Wii? :p

Yeah I fully agree with that. I'm sure they will do an ok job. I'm just kinda surprised the whole transparency thing has went this long without anybody saying anything. Yet it was clearly (no pun intended) said at e3..."Clear Black"

Transparent case is a very odd choice. What's wrong with black? An internal light? Ugh! In all honesty, an internal light like those stupid glowing fans and neon tubes in PCs would be enough for me not to buy a PS3 until it's removed. It's a useless, tacky, energy wasting distraction. I can't imagine Sony ever doing anything like that. They've always been classy in their product designs.

Ack, I've got a vision of a PS3 with a swirly blue light inside. I think I'm gonna chuck

To be fair, the photo is of the underside. The top may be opaque, or such that it's only transparent from a certain angle which the dome doesn't allow.

BTW : Isn't that a flippen' big fan?

Well checking the gametrailers video first hand look at it, look when he opens up the memory card flap, it's transparent as well. So I suspect the top being the same way.

Big and quiet is better than small and loud. ;)
for example, a 90mm fan is smaller than 120mm (obviously), but depending on which voltage you buy they should push around the same amount of air, but the 120mm is softer sounding because it doesnt have to spin as fast. (something like that, i havent built a pc in a while lol)

Yeah, I know big is good, but this looks large than 120mm to me. It depends how big the fan is in that casement, but given the width of PS3 (http://byonabi.haru.gs/ma2/html/uppp37602.html) and this thing looks about 1/2 the width from the furthest point of the metal fixing (ie. Not the black circular area) I estimate nearer 15 cm. Maybe it's 120mm inside a larger casement?

Also it's odd the fan is underneath, no? Are there any similar examples of fans below motherboards?

Not sure really. fishie (the guy with the first picture up top) said the fan looks 12cm or 15cm to him. And I've never seen any fans under the mobo for quite some time. (I remember some modders would put the fan on the otherside thinking it would reduce temps, but infact i think it just messed with the temp sensor; not really sure) We could be looking at anything though, the transparency of the ps3 isnt exactly clear. We could be looking at some sort of hard drive cooler or somthing.

Or maybe, the PS3's at Leipzig GC were just dummy non-working units with just some random junk like fans and such thrown inside to make it weigh 5 kg and fool people who get to handle it thinking it's an actual, solid production unit!!!111!1
They used cheaper plastic for the casing too, that's why it's semi-transparent.
