New PS3 shots...

I guess then that the "Eject" and "ON/OFF" symbols in front of the disc slot are no longer illuminated then, as the two new leds must be for those functions, somewhat mirroring the PS2 design and the two leds there.

looking good. a bit bulky and a bit too industrial for my taste but anyway. at least looks better than the original ps2.

btw, am i the only person worried by the mini-b usb plug in the controller - that it may not be the best possible solution the keep the cable in-place during game sessions?

depends if its a slutty one or a tight one .. :)
the mini usb port on my pentax is very tight , i always have to pull hard to remover the cable from it.

but you have a point. one if you plugin plugout the cable a few hundreds time

what would you suggest? Isnt the cable in the same spot where the cable of a regular wired controller would be?

from my experience with mini-b they all get 'slutty' with time, and rather quickly at that.

The cable seems to fit pretty tight. The guy in the Sega devkit video has some problems pulling it out.
I don`t think you will need that cable too often anyway.

patsu got it right!

I too would have preferred the banana controller, too bad the internet was so vocal, as I think most of the critisism towards it was unfounded and just a ersult of internet mass-hysteria.

Note to Sony: Please do not listen to the internet the next time you make choices on design. The echoes internet is not reliabe when measuring mass appeal.

Oh come ON!!

Do you really, seriously, hand on heart believe that Sony changed the design of something they produce because of noise on internet forums?! That's just absolutely amazing and kinda symptomatic of the belief that internet forums actually have any weight in every day life in the outside world... WAY too much time on the net, on here and on silly gaming websites.

well they definately changed it due to the bad rep it was getting, dispite nobody even holding the thing yet. I think we would be surprised to know what they may read on forums and websites. IIRC reggie (from nintendo) talked about the GAF photoshop thread they had on g4tv.

The cable has to be tight or you'd risk unplugging it while playing. Remember that not only the controller will actually HAVE TO be moved due to the motion sensor enabled games, but Sony needs to cater for those gamers who aren't exactly gentle in their movements... :D

maybe. we'll see. i still can't figure out for the life of me why they had to make the controller with a plug - that's a fraking first in the undustry.

So does anyone know if the "touch sensitive" buttons are back? The previous shots showed that the eject and on/off buttons looked more like PS2 style buttons, not touch sensitive. After looking at these new shots, it looks like it made a return. Specifically this screenshot:

Can anyone confirm this?

Oh and will it have a glossy finish like PSP? Thanks.

Pretty sweet. But one question concerning that PS insignia beneath the cd rom drive. Anyone else noticed whether the PS3 was standing upright or was laying horizontally, that insignia always faced the proper direction? Is it rotatable or something?
