New PS3 details (launch, online)

Spring launch could still happen because I heard from "well-placed industry sources" that Sony is still targetting spring realease. ..now I just need to upload this "news" somewhere.

Upload quick, before too many people hear this news.:p

Wow. Sept is very far. This should give MS plenty of time to flood the market. Also, remeber that Xbox360 games will have matured by a whole year (almost) and their graphics will look very nice. The launch games of the PS3 will need to look equally good as the xbox 360 titles at that time esp. if the PS3 carries a higher price tag.

Then the upcoming move to Vista shortly after will have some people giving second thoughts to getting a PS3 since they might opt to use their cash to upgrading their PC's for Vista. Spring would have been a perfect launch for the PS3 but Sept isn't a good idea.

September in the US sounds good for 06 in Europe.

I guess Sony can afford to wait in Japan, it's not like anyone's really snapping at their heels. Nintendo won't launch much before then if at all.

It'd give global launch software development more time too, which would be a good thing I guess (i.e. Japanese devs wouldn't be rushing to meet an earlier launch).

Assuming this is all true, of course..

The console isnt suppose to be region locked, theres little benefit or reason to not do a world wide launch. Unlike microsoft, any excess amounts in areas can be re-located to places that have demand.

1. what makes you think they would have enough supply to do a launch in the next 2-3months.
2. what makes you think the majority of console users are also die hard computer fans willing to toss a grand or two around for hardware upgrades? You're seriously over-simplifying the market consoles cater towards. And to the few who would spend quite a bit to get the best in computers, what sounds better; Testing a new operating system which historically have been full of holes at release, buggy, and unstable, with few games that fully utilize new features, or buying a console that promises you plenty of hit games, nice graphics and sells hundreds of millions of units.

lol ps3 could release one day after spring and the xbox likes would eat it up. hell, even if it launched in spring in japan its not a real spring launch to them unless they launch in NA.

Huh? I'm saying the same thing. They don't have enough supply so it'll be Sept. launch but a spring launch would be preferred.

They majority are not but I'm sure there are a fair amount of consumers who're into both. No company likes to miss out on even one sale. Giving this niche of consumers a chance to think about either buying a PS3 or a upgrading their PC for vista isn't very ideal. Such a thought would not even be possible if it was launched in spring.

if i was to take a guess at the ps3 launch it will be around mid November.
i think the way sony will look at this is that as long as they get it out the door before christmas and have a reasonable launch lineup.

it's actually kind of uncommon that someone buys an operating system off the shelf and "upgrades" their computer with it. that's been true for previous version upgrades of Windows. the big change will be that NEW computers will come pre-loaded with Vista, because of course noone is going to buy a new PC with an "outdated" operating system. but few people will care enough to blow $100+ on a new Windows....
