new oblivion shots

The first one is stunning...the way the clouds cast shadows on the ground (are those patches of darker area in the grass shadows?). They also did the whole forest thing right on....the other scene is pretty mediocre..I guess because its so dark.

They never said you need dual GPU's to run Oblivion at the same level of IQ as Xbox360, just that you will need a high end PC. Even if they did say that I wouldn't believe them. The marketting guy for ES said multithreading games was easy peasy for goodness sake.

Anyway you won't get TECS with the console version and it's unlikely you will be able to download user made mods on the Xbox360 with any great ease either.

Looks nice. It won't be the best looking game but TES is 1 of my all time favourite games. I will get the PC version. Will the 360 version look better?

The first shot has the best grass that I have seen in any game. BAR NONE!

Don't know what sparked you to say that.. Grass looks good too but nothing I haven't seen in other games.. I want to see everything in motion first.

This place was probably posted already...but ever since I got hardware acceleration for HD-WMV (for my 6600GT), i've been watching alot of HD Video...

720p XBox360 Trailers

Reason I post it is because of Oblivion...that trailer on the URL above looks insane..such a beautiful game. I seriously cannot wait for this game.

the game looks amazing no doubt, but i only have one peeve about it... i really think this title is overusing the blur/bloom/hdr technique. like in the movie, its sweet when they zoomed up on that guy with the fur on his shoulders showing lots of detail and whatnot..... and then all of a sudden they show a town that is nothing but blur/bloom. it really takes some of the detail out.

nothing you haven't seen in other games? care to share some screen shots of these games, as i can't think of a single game out now that rivals it....

and if you want to see things in motion, there are several oblivion movies aroudn the net, although how close they are to the final thing is the question.

Well if that's what the game will look like, colour me impressed! Very nice, though there's something about those pics that don't convince me... Not sure what it is. The first on i can hardly make out what's in the picture... Must be the colours, or maybe there's just too much on screen.

yeah, that looks amazing as as well but the surroundings seem to blend together in every pic its hard to make out things, maybe its the color.

but it does look good.

To me the first one looks a bit odd, because that`s obviously a placeholder texture for the sky.

It's the lack of good lighting that makes it look flat. No clear contrast between lit areas and shadows...

might as well copy this text and prepare to paste as we will probably be saying that about half of all next gen titles released for the next year or two. :D

I hope not. I like the HDR feature. I think its the bright bloom lighting that I hate. Look at some shots of UE 2007 to see what I mean. Most screenshots of Malcolm are extremely to bright on one side.

It seems good lighting and shadowing technologies are becoming really important to the final "look" to a game.

What techniques are we seeing in Oblivion and not in Gothic? They both look good and seem to have a lot of detail, but Oblivions world seems more "solid".

Oblivion seems to have decent lighting for sure. Gothic 3 looks almost devoid of lighting. I'd say that's the chief difference. Well Gothic 3 seems to be properly lit in some areas, but in others it is very fake. Especially the front of that barn/shed in gc5_05.jpg.

The bloom which everyone bitches about also helps Oblivion I think. It smooths out the "synthetic" nature of the CGI and gives it a sort of natural halo instead of harsh, abrupt lighting. It may be a bit overdone but it's definitely necessary IMO.

One thing I'm worried about with Oblivion is how they're going to handle that grass. It looks as though the engine might draw it as you walk and since the edge is, oh, 10 ft in front of you that could look pretty bad....
