Well, just because it's stable otherwise doesn't mean it will neccesarily be stable in this demo.

You mean that the SSE version is slower, right? Well, that's because SSE lacks horizontal adds, so you have to shuffle to do a simple dot product. That's the biggest shortcoming of SSE, which makes it much less useful for 3D tasks than it would otherwise be. It's been added in SSE3 though, but my CPU doesn't support that. It's possible an SSE3 version could be as fast as 3DNow or maybe faster.

I just downloaded it and ran it.

The first time my mouse quit, and a moment later I had a BSOD flash up and then an immediate reboot.

After reboot I was darying and tried it again. It worked (although I thought I had crashed again as my PC paused a second again...).

It seems to run in software by me... The PC stalls and only by pressing ESC a lot I can quit(the mouse doesn't response).
    Athlon3000+ on ASUS A8N-SLI with 6600GT

Same with your other demos(like DOF or raytraced shadows). Older demos run fine.

Resizing the window seems to fix this, Zengar. But yes, it does appear to be a problem that one frame is rendered, then no others until the window is resized.

Nice demo! Went good with meatballs I ate right before I ran it ;).

No problems on my system (Athlon XP [TBred-B] @1.75GHz, FIC AD11 rev. 1.2 [AMD760+VIA686B] @280MHz, 9800PRO 128MB @398/743MHz, Win XP Pro SP2). I haven't tried it in windowed mode though.

I get the problem in the 66.93 drivers, too. I'm pretty sure it's the one Zengar described, but is, at least, the one I described.

Its a nice demo although I have one question for you Humus. Metaballs is not a new concept and has been out for years. I have seen metaballs in demos that run with nVidia TNT1 hardware with OpenGL/DirectX API yet your metaball demo needs DX9.0 hardware to run (ie GF FX5200 or 9500 and up). Surely it doesnt need the latest video card to run it?

Metabals are mathematical concept and do not rely to 3d card at all. This demo is using OpenGL Shading Language for reflections, hence the need of a recent graphics card :)
