Overall, HS is a decent game. It is kind of odd how close it is to become a fantastic game if only a few things were to be tweaked"

Tweak it ! :)

I read Geo's post, backtracked to find the offenders, but found deepbrown's review summary post instead.

I take that "Tweak it !" statement back. The game gets pretty good scores from other magazines (Plenty of high 8.*, 9s and above). Instead, NT can introduce a separate mode/combat engine/difficulty for hardcore gamers. It will increase replayability for them too, while leaving the game accessible to casuals. I appreciate how Polyphony Digital approaches the growing gaming market. I hope other devs follow suit.

EDIT:
I've played a 5 minute demo of HS more than 30 times....that seems to have lasting appeal to me. Oh well, to each his own. Maybe having to play this game through 2 or 3 times...in order to achieve "lasting appeal" won't be such a bad thing.

Actually this is how I replay games. I seldom replay the entire thing all over again. Most of the time, I replay it at higher difficulty end-to-end the following week, and then hand pick selected levels and play them repeatedly for the next few months/years. So as long as there are a few interesting fights... it will last a long time.

How many hours of gameplay does a game like Bioshock, which gets one of IGN's all-time highest ratings, offer?

Not a FPS player at all but what kind of gameplay innovation can there be in the genre? Just different kinds of weapons mostly?

Not a fan of horror either.

But the reviews have me intrigued so I've downloaded the PC demo (but haven't tried it yet).

People look down at "hack-and-slash" and "button-mashers" (which HS doesn't have to be) but I don't see FPS games as exactly offering nuanced gameplay or control mechanic.

Might be more effective to ask in the Bioshock thread.

Many good games are repetitive. Tetris, Halo 1, Diablo, etc. but to IGN's credits, I think they meant something higher level. Perhaps a conversation between Ninja Theory and IGN would reveal more.

I hate to do this, but has anyone seen NextGen Ireland's site?

http://www.nextgenireland.com/home.html

That's it, its not a print based magazine, its a one man home-made operation. Last review was Oblivion on PS3 back on June 1st. Despite apparently being a multi-platform site, every single review and news piece is about Sony.

Now if this site got their hands on review builds of both Heavenly Sword and Warhawk then please let me know, since if its that easy I'll setup my own gaming website to get my hands on free games.

For one, whereas most sites complain that Heavenly Sword is a short game (6-10 hours quoted) this site claims it took him 15 hours to complete, or 5 x12hour session to get all unlockables.

A) Played the demo
B) Read a preview

However I feel in this case, its a fan-site jumping to the rescue of an anticipated PS3 game.

Modified deepbrown's list to include Konrad's "Level" entry. Also leaving out "Nextgen Ireland" until further notice :)
EDIT: Also added EGM score.

HS does a lot of things right and over-delivered in some. Now regarding some IGN tweaks to make it a fantastic game... I'd be interested to follow up ;-)

I don't think they are a credible site - they've recently turned to be exclusively Sony because they feel no other console offers as much - ie. saying Wii's a fad, and basically trash talking. I don't think they've played HS...

I think it's pointless arguing about review scores especially when none of us have played the game. I'm withholding my judgement until I have the game in my hands.
The art and production values are good enough for me to buy it.

??

Does this have anything to do with Ihamotic's post and mine? Because both of our posts were deleted but we didnt talk trash to each other.

Just asking in case of a misunderstanding

No, those were deleted for being off-topic. But we've got one banned member and one warned member already from this thread for talking smack about forum members instead of the subject. That's not including the inappropriate references that Pete provided as quotes upstream (more gently than I).

I think this will be a great game. It's too bad I can't afford to own all three consoles. I'm waiting on either the PS3 or the Xbox360, to see which will cater to me best. This game is definitely a winner, but it's just so hard with the quality exclusives on either side.

Don't put too much faith into individual reviews. If you look across the board and scores are consistently very good, you can bet the game will be great. I think 7/10 will be the low score for this one and it'll average around 8.5 or 9.

Enjoy the gaming, PS3 owners!

super sweet footage of large battle field with 1000 soldiers on screen

BTW That's a video of the intro battle (internally known as chapter 0), cos its the first thing in the game we hand hold the player (its pre-tutorial) hence the on screen prompts and give you lots of superstyle moves without you really earning them, however later on you do that big army fight for real.

Just thought i'd point that out, in case anybody thinks the combat looks a bit easy, it is for that scene as its just a fun impressive kill lots of people intro.

Perfect idea for an intro! Sounds great. Ps. I've watched 1 second of that video - I will not spoil my experience of the game anymore!

What seems odd to me is that in the Gamespot preview, (that I didn’t actually read as it was full on spoilers), they say that they had an almost final built of the game. Are the others reviewing HS on non final versions of the game?
Or am I missing something?

The early ones certainly were - There are two review builds. I think the latter ones are reviewing review build 2. Still it's not the finished game often in reviews.
