Nanostray for DS in action.

Thanks for posting that video. I have been curious about the game for some time.

That people have skill squeezing graphics out of hanhelds.

I hope the game to be decent/good and have multiplayer.

What are the uses for the touch screen?

The power ups dont look that hot.

Looks great imo. Just the perfect type of game for handhelds - easy to get into and out of (low committment). Extremely low learning curve which again, is perfect for handhelds imo.

Bump mapping? Bah. This is NDS we're talking about here, I at least expect approximation of indirect lighting through filtered floating point radiance cube maps.

Seriously, would it have killed Nintendo to integrate MBX or Imageon into the NDS?

erm, i seem to remember one other game of that type whose learnign curve was no particularly low.. Ika-something : )

otherwise, the game looks like a killer ..dare i say a platform seller, at least for me.

VEEEEEEEEERY nice!!!

Definitely raises my interest in the DS, but what do they use the other screen for, world's biggest score counter? ;)

When I get a DS, I'll definitely get this game ASAP. I'll wait to get a DS until it's available in black, though... Silver looks so tacky.

I have a different definition of skill-curve vs. learning curve. Ikaruga's learning curve (how-to-play) is very shallow compared to it's skill curve (playing well).

I was curious about this myself. Not much information was gleened other than weapon management.

there's graphite black (and some other less cool colors) available at play-asia.

ok, if you differentiate like this then yes. as i usually keep those two together - 'how good you are at that game' (tm) : )

I'm a designer, I need to have this differentiation. ;)

Yes. If they integrated one, they would have had to integrate two. And considering the resolution, would it be worth it to even integrate one?

Why two? Only 1 screen displays 3d anyhow, and if it can switch between two then it could maybe just output to both screens at half framerate?

This has never been confirmed, AFAIK... Current titles only seem to do 3D on one screen, but surely drawing 3D to the primary screenbuffer, then blitting the image to the other screen's buffer and re-drawing the primary screen for display must be possible. It'd probably mean sucky performance though, as the DS is somewhat challenged in that regard already. Probably a reason why developers have avoided it so far. Probably won't stay that way through the device's entire lifetime though. Some day someone will make a game with twin-screen 3D graphics, even if it looks like the original Starfox... :p

Well actually on that note I remember seeing an old video of Medroid Prime Hunters back in the early days of the DS unveiling (from E3 btw) and in it on startup of the demo, you had a rotating 3d model of samus, which got me thinking that 3d is possible on both screens.

Or you could just switch the render target from Screen 1's frame buffer to Screen 2's frame buffer. Think of the PC games that have dual display.

3D is possible on both DS screens at the same time - at 30FPS. There's at least one game in development that's doing that.

Nanostray looks fine. Reminds me of Radiant Silvergun for some reason.
