What I did was a followign system upgrade:
Old Computer:
- 4 years old IEWIN case with a bit newer 300W PSU
- MSI K7T Turbo (KT133A chipset)
- 512MB PC-133 SDRAM
- Palomino Athlon XP1700+
- Philips Seismic Edge.
- Radeon 9700nonpro (the wierdo edition with stock clocks: 300 MHz core / 267 MHz memory)

and the new one
- ASUS A7V880 (KT880 chipset)
- 512 MB of DDR400 memory (2 x 256MB Kingston. )
- Athlon XP2600+
- new CompuCase with 375W Silent PSU.
- Samsung 120GB HDD
- other stuff from the old one.

while the order of new parts took few days, I ran few benchmarks with old system and when the new one was up and running I simply re-run them. test included 2 very CPU intensive program tests (one pretty well optimized, another not so well optimized.) and one older game test:

1. FULL PAL captured video post processing and compression. (de-interlacing, noise reduction, gamma and level correction. target format XVID 2 pass) (used time clocked by hand.)

2. Pov-Ray 3.5 ToyTrain CSG Scene rendering to 1280x1024 with AA 0.3 and Radiosity Lighting. (used time clocked by Pov-Ray)

3. Need For Speed 4 (High Stakes / Road Challenge) Replay: Single Race at Project MCSS Track with 7 Mini Cooper ST cars. all details high except special effects low. 6xAA and 16xAF. (Fraps Stats.)

Any guesses what were the results? :)

I'll post results later today. :)
