What is the standard procedure for RROD when u send it back in?
Is a new heatsink installed?is a new drive installed?
i already got it back ut mever payed attention...or did thay just restored factory defaults and send it back?

Jishell, You should be the one telling us what the difference is. ;) What is the manufacturing date on the back of your console? Is it pre-summer 2007? Look through the holes in the bottom of the console to see if the new heatsink is there now.

You wouldn't be able to tell if the drive was replaced with the same model, and in your case, you wouldn't know if the model was replaced with one of the other two models in use since you didn't have a look before.

Still... one convoluted method is to check the lot number of the console and the team that put it together (CSON, FDOU etc) and check back against this site: http://www.360drives.com/list i.e. If you have a 360 unit that was manufactured on a particular date and was part of a particular lot number from the particular team, and the drive you have now is not the same as the one that others have reported as being in there according to that database, well.... you'll know it was replaced.

You can tell which DVD drive you got from the tray design: http://llamma.com/xbox360/Xbox_360_DVD_Drive_Comparison.htm

yes,but im a middle aged man w/kids,I didnt other looking at it other than plugging it ack up.

Well I was asking because some of us got refurbished units back instead of our original. You should be able to shine a light through the back and see if there are any other heatsinks in there (basically what Alstrong said).

Well, hmmm I know its my same unit I originally bought in 05,I also noticed the drive doesnt just open, its almost like a 2 stage eject, open and just b4 it stops it slows up.Do they generally repair the overheating issues as they come?

I don't think it's known *exactly* what causes the RROD, just educated guesses pointing to insufficient cooling. I have read reports of repaired units receiving the modified GPU heat sink though (other forums mind you).

Faulty/leaky capacitors might be a culprit too. It would be easy to just do a motherboard replacement at that point.
