Multi-core, multi-threaded, in-order CPUs will be easier than xbox to develop for? I don't think so...
I would assume that Microsoft is aware of the inherent difficulties and has done work to address it.
Well that page doesn't present a panacea. Or do you mean OpenMP is the solution?

Well you're gonna need to tune and optimise code before it leaves the studio unless you want your effort to look worse compared to competing studios efforts taking advantage of the hardware...
Judging by this generation, a whole lot of devs won't feel terrible about not keeping up with the elite few. GTA and Renderware is a prime example of that.

Without losing track of the original statement by GameMaster,

The GameMaster said:

Additionally the XBox2 will actually be EASIER to develop for than the previous XBox system and I am sure that will interest potential developers, but it will also make it easier for those 2nd generation XBox2 games to achieve their full potential.
...

...If your gonna use the lowest common denominator with middleware, like Renderware, then that 'ease' of development will apply to ALL next gen consoles...not just Xenon...

...But GameMaster is still talking about the games 'achieving their full potential'...so the point still stands about tuning and optimising multi-core, multi-threaded, in-order CPUs being harder than Xbox...

You're selectively picking things to support your point. He also claimed that Xenon development was easier than Xbox development. So you see, you should have been more specific in the first place.

If you want to debate the second part, you'll have to wait for GameMaster. He never specified what it was easier than.

I really hate this PR bullshit.

What the hell does "development on Xbox2 will be easier than on Xbox"??

Does it mean that the same game, if it were to be programmed on the 2 consoles, would be easier to program on Xbox2? Why would you do that? People will program Xbox games on Xbox and Xbox2 games on Xbox2!

If they're talking about 2 different games, then how can they quantify what game is easier for what platform?? Man-hours? There are different assets, different budgets, different devkits... It's like quantifying how much quicker it is to manufacture a TV compared to a toaster!

Shaders (at least) should be easier, someone (from ubi) said that the main shader of Splinter Cell 3 took 6 mouths to be done but in XB2 should be a lot easier.

Why would it be any different? Just because of the single GPU target?

Or because they already developed the shader, so getting that working on Xenon would naturally be easier? ;)

Not being selective here as we're both trying to make different points (not that your points are invalid), which is why I reposted the original statement. This is understandable when discussing by proxy and the original posters context is lost...

True, that would be easier...

Since when did Microsoft reveal the Xbox 2/Xenon name btw? I find it strange so many people use 'Xbox 360', when at the same time there hasn't been any confirmation of this. This teaser commercial is another testament to this, it's just 'Xbox' in another font (maybe it's just that?).

Well it seems that it will be called Xbox 360. Nothing would be dumber than calling it just Xbox, and all the hassle it would create.

The name Xbox 360 has been mentioned by a few websites, but not by Microsoft, I stick to 'Xbox 2' untill the MTV event sheds light on the name.
