Movie Reviews 2.0

Consider what 2016 has shown us about this. I'm afraid that the result wold be exactly the opposite of what you think - there's a considerable amount of people all around the world who would gladly accept such fake video footage as real. I mean people became millionaires (!) by running fake news websites about the US election and the candidates; there was a guy who actually believed that certain politicians were performing child sacrifices in the cellar of a restaurant and went there with a gun to stop it.

Technology like this can easily be abused, to terrible consequences. It's probably not going to get as convincing as even CG Tarkin within a reasonable time - say, another 10 years - but it's almost good enough already to create a fake video and share it on facebook, as "proof" of some kind of crazy conspiracy theory...

Actually there was another investigator guy who went there and merely ordered some food, no guns or anything, and was escorted out by security guards within moments. Later the media(think it was a fox tv news report) put out a photo of him with the pizza gun man story underneath, causing lots of problems for him. If they'd do that to an investigator, it really doesn't put it past them that the person with a background as an actor could hypothetically been hired to stage the event.

There's weird language in the podesta emails, things like asking how many are in the office to know how thinly a single slice of pizza is going to have to be sliced. Supposedly the claims are one of those involved an owner, iirc, had images of children not his own in his instagram, and had sexual commentary besides some of the photos(toddlers, and even babies).

Also just look at the name of some of the bands that go to this family friendly place, heavy breathing and sexual stains, and one of those bands had a member comment regards pedophile relations "we all have our preferences".

Now, the podesta emails are checked, the band names and comments semichecked. The photos don't know, but that's probably the most shocking.

But again even if all that was true, it does not prove anything, but it suggest if true, further investigation is warranted.

Seriously off topic
True, just clarifying that.

While the following is also a bit offtopic, it is relevant regards the possibility of future computer generated content as pertains to films.

I imagine a time might come, in the distant future, when a script is fed into a machine, with the actors name, and the machine would generate a rough draft, perhaps even close to photoreal, of a possible scenario of how the script could look and sound when filmed.

I watched a movie called Criminal on HBO Go just now. I thought it was gonna be throwaway trash but it actually wasn't bad IMO. I was cracking up at the beginning when Kevin Kosner didn't give a shit about anything grand theft auto style. :)

I watched intersellar last night, first time I watched it again since it came out.

I forgot just how great that film is, I reckon it's the best sci-fi/space film of the last 10+ years. Matthew whathisname was really good. Really good epic-scale big screen, big thought drama, with a semblence of a decent storyline, which is a rarity these days in sci-fi. Well acted. The fact that it's also a feel-good movie just adds to it.

Light years (NPI) ahead of prometheus

I wonder how "bad" the cgi actors (in Rogue One) would've been in a blind taste test. I had no idea about them and simply didn't notice.

A coworker of mine, who is not into graphics at all, saw Rogue One movie over the Holidays. The conversation went like this.

"Did you know there are two characters in the movie that are completely CGI special effects?"
"The commander guy and Princess Leia."
"Did you know that going into it?"
"No, but you could tell."

Watched the super mario bros movie yesterday

I don't get why people hate on it so much. Obviously its not the greatest thing ever made and has next to nothing to do with Mario/Nintendo but as a crazy over the top 80's kids movie it really isn't that bad. Lots of weird stuff and explosions. I'm guessing kids would like it.

Just arrived home from watching Collateral Beauty. Not the choice of movie I would make at first, but I got invited to watch it and, well... Not bad. It was beautiful, made me cry and stuff... ^_^

I dont like the tile. It gives me the impression the tag line starts with "One womans journey" and I avoid any movie with that tag line.

o_O

By the way, before watching the movie I read all kinds of bad reviews and comments, but honestly, I read more people saying that they won't see the movie just because everybody says it's bad, and it's not that bad (IMHO). It reminds me of how this happens with games, too.

except it's about people trying to cure Will Smith from not giving a shit after his daughter died ... (or so I gather from the trailer).

Granted, when talking game ips, Mario is probably among the hardest to turn into a live action movie, but even bearing that in mind it's just so unfathomably misguided, not to mention dumb looking. For most of its running time it looks a lot more like a cross between The Running Man and Big Trouble in Little China than it does like the cheery Mario games. And what the hell is up with those Goombas? And Toad? And ... everything else? And then there's all the jokes revolving around the fact that the main dude's first name also happens to be his last. Oh boy. The icing on the cake is the dreadful acting.
I most definitely did not like this thing when I was a kid.

I think the only way to turn inherently bonkers ips such as Mario into live action movies is by accepting them for the nonsense they are. Then you should simply roll with the punches. The DoA movie actually did this quite well. It has all your favorite DoA hotties kicking the snotting out of each other, a mustache twirling villain (figuratively speaking) with a truly bizarre and preposterous master plan, and it even throws a beach volleyball game into the mix for good measure :)

Short opinion of the three super hero movies I watched recently;

Deadpool: Fun. Ending was a bit meh but overall it was fun.

Batman vs superman: Ben Afleck as superman sucks. Too much sadface. The whole movie kinda makes no sense to me since superman is so overpowered compared to Batman, not really sure why those two are in the same movie. Enjoyable to watch for the action but not great.

Suicide Squad: My friend told me it was better then she expected so I gave it a go. The Joker? Not as lame as I thought but still pretty lame. I've seen more psychotic kids in high school. Harley Quinn? Better than expected, mostly because of her voice and some fun lines.

The rest of the movie was average at best. So these guys are supposed to be really bad but before you know it they turn all buddy buddy. The plot is stupid. Saving some evil bitch (not the witch) because she hold that witch captured.

Its like turning Saving Private Ryan into Saving Adolf Hitler and having to spend 3 hours watching the SS butchering themselves a way to Hitler to bring him a birthday cake. It just doesn't make sense. It's the bad guys fighting for the bad guys and winning.

IMO its getting painfully obvious that they've run out of the good stuff and now need to make due with 3rd grade IP and crossovers which are not making for good movies.
