Guardians of the GALAXY
Interesting analysis.

Personally, I feel the movie is rather over-rated, it's probably the weakest of Marvel's recent bunch, IMO. It also has a somewhat deus ex machina-like ending I feel; maybe if I'd read any Marvel comics for the last 20 years or so I'd understand the main character and his backstory better, but alas. :) I was pretty amused by the blacklight joke though. Surprised that that made it into a Disney movie aimed fairly firmly at kids, but it probably flies right over their wee innocent heads, so no harm no foul, eh? ;)

I finally got time to see Battle of the Five Armies. To be honest, it felt a bit anticlimactic. And I'm definitely not a fan of the "real life daytime soap opera" cinematic look.

Its not mine, I havent seen it, its just the films beat sheet. i.e further proof that today's blockbusters follow a formula. Heres a little game you can play, with the next super hero block buster (I have no idea what that is) http://www.superherohype.com/upcoming-movies though some arent superhero films obviously, but see how closely the structure of say "avengers age of ultron" follows the outlined plot structure. heres a game you can play whilst watching "avengers age of ultron" say you catch a 8pm screening, and the film finishes at 10pm, at 9:30pm see whats happening onscreen, is it looking very bleak for the avengers? :)
The thing is the ppl that praise these formulatic films turn their noses up at the formulatic music, justin bieber, taylor swift etc
Personally I do rate most of these films highly even though their plots are unoriginal, mainly cause the production values are so high.

I don't really watch Marvel films to see the equivalent of something by Lars von Trier. They are what they are, constructed for a specific audience. They are fantastic high budget, high quality visual attractions that let us delve into the comic world we grew up with but I'm not really expecting much more than that. The movies probably get more praise than they should be, as do movies from Peter Jackson and Michael Bay which are imo far worse than what Marvel produces.

The weird thing about the "look" of The Hobbit series is the gigantic difference between the scenes actually shot on camera (like the laketown refugee scenes, Dale, and Bags end in Five armies) vs the scenes where most of the image is CGI. Its like two movies in one....

Also, what soap operas are filmed in stereoscopic 3D? It would be interesting if you could compare a daytime soap and The Hobbit and say exactly WHAT looks the same to you....

It is also the fact that the target audience for those movies are younger than most people that post here. For that audience an unoriginal plot is not a deterrent since they do not know the original....

Also, I do not know why you would group Taylor Swift and Justing Bieber together. One is a brilliantly talented musician, singer and song writer and one is a typical one hit wonder kid.....

Heh, of course they do. News to nobody, I'm afraid! :) An action movie is much like an old faery tale, really, which follows basically the same formula regardless of whichever culture spawned it. Also, a well-made formula action movie doesn't HAVE to be original to be enjoyable, that comes automatically purely from being well-crafted.

well to you it is, news, cause what I mean its plannned out to the minute what happens next, back then it wasnt an equation, yes the good guys win the baddies lose, but it wasnt at X mins into it the good win but X mins the bad win but then at X mins the good wins = cinema gold
I made this song today on the PC its good, its like bieber/avengers good
but the thing is, is it good? or does it just tick the boxes, what je say all?

I liked it too, own it on BluRay, very cool in 3D.

Anyway, I saw The Hobbit 3 two days ago, and wow, that was pretty epic! I think this is my favorite of the six, just ahead or just behind the first LotR movie, and much better than the two Hobbit movies before, but also brings a very good balance to the whole trilogy, and succeeds at making the two trilogies connect well together. If you can stand a pretty constant barrage of action and effects for almost three hours, I can highly recommend this one. I have one or two small points of criticism, which in the grand scheme of things, is basically nothing. It's rare that I want to see a movie again straight away, but this one definitely. Will get it as soon as it is out on Bluray, to complete my set, but this one and the first LotR are the only two I expect a lot of rewatching of (though I do like the previous Hobbit movies).

A pretty major part of why I like the Hobbit so much I think is because I just vastly prefer Bilbo's character over Frodo. Vastly.

Oh and we just finished Marco Polo yesterday as well. Really enjoyed that too.

Oh my God. Did you just compare The Avengers to Justin Bieber in "goodness"? Dude you've just ruined my 2015.
howso, for smashing your delusions, that the avengers is one of the best film works of film art ever?
btw just in case anything thinks otherwise, Its an entertaining film IMO & very well made. I rated it high but its certainly not amazing & genre defining like some here think it is
now bieber I aint heard, I can guess though, Ive heard a song of tyler swift. And yes == very produced and generic, just like the avengers, is bieber different? OK his market is teener-20s girls, not teener-20s boys (for avengers) but aside the sex whats different?

Indeed, the Avengers (and the other Marvel movies) are definitely not the pinnacle of movie making. They do look nice and can entertain for a short duration while having hangovers. Calling them some of the best movies of 2014 is just ... well ... not right.

Well I watched The Interview.

All I'm going to say is that throughout the whole movie, which features some of the most retarded dialogue and jokes I've ever seen, all I could think about was how Obama came out to personally support and push the release, in light of the whole hacking scandal.

And that Sony must have done it all themselves to promote this piece of crap in a genius way and ultimately make the kind of money they have made from it.

It does have a few funny moments.

It certainly does have its moments. I watched it last night and some of the lines were truly hilarious. Some smart humor in there and I found the whole creation akin to a movie like Top Secret (at least you folks are old enough to understand). I'm not much of a fan of Franco but he put in a great performance for the role, seemed ideal for the presentation of the character.

He believes the song hes created is just like a beiber song, he knows this because he's never heard any songs by beiber

I'm going to watch Guardians of the Galaxy now, watched Need for Speed yesterday and actually came away really impressed. Way better directing and script tyan such a silly movie premise deserves.

Well if anyone here is old and European enough to have been a fan of Saint Seiya, I just found out and obviously watched the CGI movie that was made not long ago, called Saint Seiya Legend of the Sanctuary.

Very much a FF: Advent Children reworking of the anime but, unless my memory fails me, not quite the same quality of CGI.

Anyway, if we ignore the questionable design choices, the questionable story changes, the questionable everything... I'll take anything to take me back to this legendary franchise, my favourite ever, which will always have a place in my heart until I die.
