Nintendo lost approx. $20 on each sold Cube when it was introduced.
really ? how long did that last ?

not that that matters in the least, let's face it their tie in ratios aregood and the first party software sales speak for themselvees really.

actually i just want to know cause its interesting to me .

Sony never said they would be supporting only two consoles generations at the same time, not at last in the real of backward-compatibility as they said that they will support PSOne and PlayStation 2 games playback in PlayStation 3.

0.25 micron EE(278 mm2)

At least get your facts fricking straight Deadmeat when you do your daily bashing of SCE: that was the 250 nm GS having an area of 279 mm^2, the 250 nm EE was 240 mm^2 ( 180 nm EE was 224 mm^2 and the next-revision which sits between 180 nm and 150 nm is 110 mm^2 ).

Nope. Sony has shown that it does not play by the industry's rule when it comes to chip fabrication, as evidenced by massive die size of 0.25 micron EE(278 mm2) and Handheld Engine(200+ mm2). Sony parts are clearly too expensive to be used by 3rd party OEMs. Not only that, Sony has to compete against dual-core XScale and quad-core NEC ARM11 competing for the same market. AndI guarantee you that those ARM devices will be much more cost effective compared to Sony technology.
Oh Boy! you really don’t like Sony, do you?
Why exactly is that? What have they ever done to hurt you?

You guys know how much Sony lost initially with the PS2? cant recall the amount but i know it was soo significan enough for Sony heads to re-consider KK position in the organisation....

It's called selling at a loss because you know the hardware will yield returns in profits in the long run. This is where Sony controlling it's own chips comes in handy.

Or did you really think that Kutaragi is the ONLY one handeling Sony's economics? Pleaaaase Chap, Sony has teams of people who work on scenarios like this.

Microsoft claims the price to make the PSP will damage Sony in the long-run if they are trying to but-heads with Nintendo for turf.

Oh god  Let's all look to MS for information concering PSP's sales. It's called selling your system at a loss to establish a mass market price. Do you not think Sony doesn't know this?
