Middle-earth: Shadows of Mordor

Ok, I deleted my save games, restarted...bug is gone.

Played for two hours straight...nice so far. But I wonder if the game gets old quite fast...but this is my personal problem with open world games.

Weird glitch but better a software one than a hardware one! The developing abilities kept the game fresh for me, plus half way through the campaign you can access a new environment which comes with a nice visual refresh.

Been playing this game for around 18hrs and it's truly a marvel. Ironically, I'm extremely surprised no one is talking about how detailed this game looks with the high res texture pack and running at 4k. It rivals the texture details of Ryse and beats even AC:Unity in texture detail. I was so inquisitive about this that I took screenshots to verify that this game is that detailed.. Sure enough.

Images are the true 4k resolution with no touchups. Truly remarkable game both gameplay-wise and visually. Ryse still takes the graphics crown IMO, and ACU still has the best art and lighting, but man, I'm enjoying this game's visuals as well as the incredible sword play (which crushes both Ryse and AC:U).

Probably because no one here actually played it at 4k on their PC? (hint: Console forum!)

On ps4 at least, the game has some nice models but I found everything else quite bland, compared to other games I played on the platform.

Even those screenshots, they don't strike me as marvels of detail if I'm honest. They're just big.

Not only that, but you can stab orcs in the face. Take that minion of Sauron!

70 MBs of 4k PC images isn't in any way appropriate for the console forum. Your post is meaningless here. If you want to talk PC specific aspects of a game, post in the PC games forum.

@ London-boy
The prevailing theory online is that the ultra textures are simply uncompressed versions of the high textures.
Seems like a whole lot of a waste of resources to me, considering the questionable 'improvement' in visuals.

Wow. That's why the page took an unusually long time to load.

Welll, if you care to show me some close ups models showing texture detail (while in-game) of other games last year that compare -- I'd love to see them.

Sorry about that. I went to the PC forum and there is no thread on Shadow of Mordor. I'll make one.

Thread started in PC forums here

I don't really care enough to produce screenshots no. And I wouldn't see the point.

I've played and loved SoM, great fun, but it most definitely lacks in the graphics department compared to other games I've played on PS4, both in terms of visual quality and especially in variety of the environment. Starting from Far Cry 4, to name one example. Heck, I'd even say GTAV. The sheer amount of detail which is lacking in SoM.

Not even worth comparing and no amount of uncompressed (but still clearly a bit rubbish) textures will change that. The source material is just not the best, therefore it will look ok on PS4 without a great deal of improvement looking at Ultra on PC. Even Digital Foundry said the same and it's clear from your screenshots too.

A lot of the attention clearly went into the characters, some of which are really lovely. Everything else has been greatly surpassed by a lot of other games. And that's just fine cause the game was great.

I wasn't comparing the variety of the environment, number of props, trees, huts, buildings, layout of the scene, or realistic lighting, etc.. I was specifically talking about the detail of the textures (whether subjectively ugly or not) in the environment and characters as well as the self-shadowing on the PC version @ 4k with High-res texture pack. I don't have FC4 nor GTAV to speak to those, so I digress.

So in the end I grew tired of this game and now am doubtful I'll finish branding the last warchief. With most of the combos not working, it just became too much of a grind to get thru these. Still, I really enjoyed this game for the most part and will certainly consider the next one, if there is one.

The game is easily beaten with square-square-triangle repeated thousands of time. Hit hit counter etc etc. and if there's no one to counter, Mr Grumpy will just hit again.
Simples!
Yes I know the grind but it became just that, a grind. Maybe if farming orcs actually got you something it would've held my interest enough to complete itt, but it doesn't.
