I suspect this is going to be locked or move, but I was never expecting this.

Transformers director Michael Bay has accused Microsoft of sowing seeds of confusion in the HD DVD/Blu-ray war for its own digital download ends.

"What you don't understand is corporate politics. Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads. That is the dirty secret no one is talking about," Bay has said in a post in the forums on his website.

"That is why Microsoft is handing out $100 million dollar checks to studios just [to] embrace the HD DVD and not the leading, and superior Blu-ray," he continued. "They want confusion in the market until they perfect the digital downloads. Time will tell and you will see the truth."
There are some things in the industry that are indeed suspicious but wow.

Coincidentally I ve heard rumors that MS is planning to release a new version of 360 with HD-DVD build in. Ofcourse this was shot down by Toshiba.

Yeah this is gonna be locked like every thread that even touches Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD.

Apart from his wild choice of wording i think he is right that MS would rather see downloadable movies than HD-DVD/Blu-Ray discs. And i agree with him on the superior in regards to Blu-Ray.

However i look at movies not the bells and whistles, just like this guy from DVDFILE:

He dared use his own experience mixed with fact and statitics to "prove" that Blu-Ray was superior.

Does Micheal Bay even have any idea what is going on. He seems to continuously make off the wall criticizing statements with little to back them up.

What I wonder is how does he know if MS hands out "$100 million checks" to studios. Either he pulls things out of his pocket or he knows something??

well if we look at game download services, publishers get more money from that because there's no physical copy of the media and that fact alone could persuade movie studios to itunes like services. people are too used to getting their box sets and DVD cases to move over to downloadable movies where they'd have to pick up and learn to use an HTPC.

I'm guessing he just made up some crud because he was bored (or insane). I think the only studio HD-DVD exclusive is Universal (which produced Transformers and I think Michael Bay's other movies) so why exactly is he accusing his own employer of something this dirty?

It's been known for a while that MS has kept HD-DVD in the market with the $100 million.

It's also been known for a while that Michael Bay has a tiff with MS about this because Transformer - The Movie was supposed to be released in both formats until the money came out and both Paramount and DreamWorks SKG went to HD-DVD.

The speculation of the MS payment was made somewhere .. but I can't find it now.

Whats funny is that Spielberg's movies were excepted from the exclusivity. What's funnier is that HD-DVD seemed to think Transformers would win the war for them.

Unless he's talking from first hand experience I find it hard to believe that someone in his position would make such a harsh & controvertial statement..

Also, isn't it "cheque" not "check"...? :???:
