March 31 Cell thread

ok, this is to get a jump start on any Cell infomation / comments that come out on March 31. As anyone following Cell knows, Sony was ment to have some sort of demo by the end of their fiscal year--assuming that is not going to happen, we still have the IBM conference on the 31st where they are likely to discuss Cell along with Power5.

Well, I wonder, what would happen if it turns out the damn thing winds up being capible of 2 TFlops? That would make almost everybody do a doubletake, lol. Ain't gonna happen, but it would be interesting if it did.

I would venture a guess that public will know about the real PSP specs before any new PS3 details emerge.

Then again for trolls that won't make much difference

It'll last. It's only two days from now. I hope they reveal some substantal info about Cell. It's fun to read about stuff like that. I wonder if Ars will do an article on it like they did with the Emotion Engine?

Yeah, They probably will, everyone probably will, considering the interest surrounding this new architecture.

I remember i really enjoyed reading Ars' EE article, 2-3 years ago... It would also be nice to see a B3D article on all new architectures, be it Cell or the XCPU2 and all new chips in the next gen consoles, once we can get out hands on them...

IIRC, isn't the GPU in the PS3 supposed to be a Cell direvitive? I can't remember.

Apparently. If u do a search on the forum, u'll find many (most certainly locked) threads with all the info u need, before diving into next-gen discussions... Not like there IS a lot of info at the moment anyway... but at least u'll get an idea

yep. the 'Visualizer' in the Sony Cell patent is made from 4 PEs modified for graphics. the PS3 GPU is likely to be based on it.
