MAG

Ok, that means I need to take a step back to plan my skill tree. Is there a global view available on the net ?

Kotaku impressions:

I think it's rather true to the game. ^_^

War broke out on my Playstation 3 last night, slowly unfolding like a deadly blossom over the course of seven hours.

That's seven hours without break, or nearly a day's work playing the PS3's massively first-person shooter MAG and loving every minute of it.

[server upgrade broke online for a while]

The following is the essence of the game. I think it may be fitting to call MAG a Role-Playing FPS in the following sense:

That's one of the things about MAG, it can't really be played as a typical shooter. The objectives are complex and designed strategically to require genuine group efforts to complete them. Get in with a squad of guys who want to spend the whole time laughing about how they ran each other over with a tank, and you'll never win. Get in with a team who bark out orders and sniper positions and you're going to win. It's also going to be some of the most fun you'll have in a shooter.

I wonder if some of the reviewers are indeed asking for the rest of the RPG package (story, NPC, bosses), to make it into a FPS-RPG.

For now...

There are plenty of other things I like about the game as well. The skill tree allows you to create what are essentially custom classes. The inclusion of upgradable healing and repair abilities adds a neat level of play to the game for those of you not as into running around shooting people.

The ability to airdrop into a map as you push forward, and be shot out of the air by enemies, is fantastic.

Mostly though, MAG feels to me like the proper marriage of World of Warcraft and, dare I say it, Counter-Strike. Sure it's no Counter-Strike, nothing is. But it's a very solid, well designed shooter.

This part I agree when I'm in full role playing mood:

A very, very important important thing to note: A microphone is an absolute must in MAG. If you don't play with a microphone you might as well not play MAG. Seriously.

In general, being a silent follower or lone wolf may work too -- as long as you understand what's key to winning.

I played last night, well this morning, until 2 a.m. or so, killing 130 people, and accruing enough experience points to be a "senior trooper" that is within striking distance of the 1,497 points required to hit level eight.

I think I'm in level 7 (or 6) after 4 hours ?

I went for global agenda instead of this . Seems like you really need a good squad of people if not a huge guild / clan to play mag right

I'm still on the fence myself on this one. Gah if only I had time for the demo when it was around. Maybe I'll just grab it, but I need some more B3D reviews up here to guide me. ;)

Can't you guys get a B3D crew together for this? Seems like the perfect game for it.

B3D ? Too sparse, and too much timezone differences. GAF is more suitable.
(I play at odd hours).

In any case, the game is big enough to accomodate both GAF and B3D in the same game. ^_^
The GAF folks are still organizing among themselves (Raven leader went missing, hospitalized I think).

Wait for others' comments. I don't think many people are getting it though. At least not according to my friends list. However there are enough players to start a new Sabo game within a few seconds.

I just bought my med kit so I can save someone else now, and also found out that I have a sniper rifle in a different load out all along. :)

How did I do with a sniper rifle ?

Screeching Halt – Awarded when a player kills 50 of a certain specialty: Rapid Assault

Stopped a squad all by ma-self when the award arrived. ^_^ (Reminds me of "Enemy at the Gates").

Today is the second time we managed to crack SVER Objective C. We lost. Also the first time I went inside Valor Objective C (Both Sabotages). Met a leader who marked out some sort of waypoint for us -- for the first time. That's how we were able to reach SVER C.

EDIT: The only hopeful B3D clan is tha_con's. I think he ran (runs ?) a pretty tight R2 clan. Played with his people twice.

If my money arrives in time, I`ll have the game tomorrow - otherwise on Monday. Already joined a German Raven clan which came from KZ2 , they seem to be good guys , mostly older players like myself. Enough people for 3 squads already.

Hmm... according to some GAF posters, the game is "flying off" the shelves. Should be an interesting game to watch. I will file it under "old school shooter" and see how gamers like it.

The GAF thread is here:

xbd, you can find some other people's feedback (positive and negative) there.

macabre, what is your clan name ?

I've decided on getting this game will get ACiT & Demon Souls during summers...cause its never too late for SP games :)

Just watch out for Demon's Souls server lifespan. It would be a shame if you miss it.

Otherwise, welcome to MAG ! What faction are you thinking of joining ?

You can try out the game (rent ?) if you're not sure. I think Zipper should get Sony to install a trial account at every GameStop.

Would be a shame if the game is ruined by the wrong people joining. As a gamer, I'd rather the game is stuffed with the right players. :)

EDIT: If you like serious FPSes, I think it's a good decision to rough it out with new players. The feeling is different from joining a mature game.

I was always attracted towards Raven's cool looking gear but judging by how handicapped they are in most maps compared to Valor & especially SVER I may change my decision.

Ah, so you did some research. I suspect people who take initiative in researching their potential faction should fit in this game.

I think SVER may be more fun, and yes their fortress is strong indeed. I picked Raven just because I am curious about the accuracy and I want to join some B3D games. The B3D people I spoke to seem to have joined Raven.

I have played the first beta & the one where SVER was added as a faction.
I liked the game a lot...so yea done a bit of researching.

Hopefully my game is arriving today or tomorrow, it was cheap got it for 399nkr ~ 50€ instead of the listet 599nkr ~72€ price that was listed at Gamestop.

So I'll see you guys tonight or tomorrow night, CET time that is :D
