MAG

I`m close to my second respec. I`m Assault class atm, I need 2 more points to get the better RPG. I will test that out, then I plan to try out the sniper class with the 50cal.
Also played my first big maps, it`s pretty chaotic. I got a ribbon for running 5 people over with a tank , Warhawk style
Yet my stats haven`t been updated for days...I don`t really care but I always seem to have stat problems with my games.

I wish I knew what sort of xp bonus that is, I can't get it.

Also, finally got to level 10 on Valor, but is Domination even in the game? I try to enter a game, and it tells me I've been disconned from server (nice job, btw, since it logs me out of my profile).

Edit: looking at the tree, I get why respecs are expensive, since you can use them to reoptimize (for instance, I got the reflex sight, the foregrip, the 2nd AR, improved stability at a cost of 8 points. Getting the 3rd AR and the scope would push it up to 15 points, which I'd only get by level 18. But if I respec, I can get the foregrip, improved stability, scope and 3rd AR for 10 points, I'd have them by level 13 -- it doesn't seem like I'd want to keep both the 2nd and 3rd ARs around). Maybe for low level characters give them a discount on respecs, so they can experiment.

The XP bonus is only mentioned in the description of the training mission. But you can't play it in the beta.

The disconnection problems are already known, and they have reduced the amount times they happen. They actually fix those problems on the server side. Not having to download a patch is always nice.

Is the 3rd AR really the better gun? I know it's not the case on Raven. It does have the highest rate of fire, and does slightly more damage. But the 2nd AR has the best accuracy. Which is a big win because two headshots from any gun is a kill. It also costs less skillpoints, comes equipped with a foregrip as standard, and costs fewer credits to carry.

The game is too difficult for me. It is even starting to get frustrating for me...

I fully agree with you guys that they should make the beginning easier and more rewarding. Every good RPG does this: relative fast beginning with some cool stuff unlocked (to get the player hooked) and then a lot of room for the higher level players (for the loing term motivation).

I've played more and things are better, but, it's not an easy game as there is not to much coordination at the moment.

Why can't you see the enemies ?

Often I spot enemies by the red inverted triangle, and I shoot in that direction - sometimes I'm lucky, sometimes I don't. Enemies being far away you can only spot by the red triangle and if you're hidden in the grass how do you get shot? By the beloved red triangle you have in your head 8)

Edit: I don't like the grenades - too difficult to predict where is going to land.

My problem is, that some of the environments are very dark and I often feel that somehow the lightning is off because everything is so dark, although we are fighting in 'daylight'.
Now you have dark colored enemies and a dark background...the only help is the red triangle on top of the enemie, which is often rather small...what helped: I switched to the beamer setup with the huge screen, and now I could spot enemies a little bit better.

Do you have Limited RGB or Full RGB set ? I didn't notice black crush issues. IMHO, if it's difficult to see someone hiding under cover, then I don't see it as a big problem. If it's hard to see everyone, then it's a problem.

Damn right. The Socom games I briefly played before was like this too. I was hoping they make MAG slightly easier for people like me !

Does the situation change if you have a sniper rifle ? I only engage in short, mid range combat.

I prefer U2 grenade throwing. It's almost automatic.

I ditched the sniper idea, there are already too many snipers. So I`m going to be a grunt with shotgun for rushing in at sabotage and domination. Someone has to get the job done.

I managed to play with the MAG beta this week at a friend's, and I am very impressed with its depth, scope, and scale. By yesterday I had been able to reach level 9, specializing at sniping, and it was obvious that I had just barely scratched the surface of what MAG has to offer. I would be very surprised if this game does not become a huge hit among the hardcore, as it sets a new standard for what console games can be. In short, hype about this game seems justified.

Played quite a few games JPT last night. It was a lot of fun, but sadly I wasn't able to use my headset properly. At one point I heard half the voices over the headset, and the other half through the TV, and I'm not sure anyone could hear me.

The Frago area can be a bit misleading sometimes. On Raven Sabotage, defending that close to objective A and B means the enemies can easily get to the stairs on the front. After that they gain the high ground, and the objective is quickly lost. Defending on the front of the base is far more effective because you can usually spot the enemies before they get close.

I have full RGB and superwhite on...is this wrong?

If your TV doesn't support them, yes.
FullRGB = pc rgb (0-255 color table), some older tvs support it on VGA input only.
LimitedRGB = studio rgb (16-239 color table)
SuperWhite on = studio white balance
SuperWhite off = some of the colors are capped
BD/DVD video output format = Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr

Most regular TV sets are better using a limitedRGB setting. Movies and games are optimized to look good on it anyway. Use SuperWhite=on as its ok for most tv sets. You must adjust tv settings each time you change a rgb setting when looking for a best settings.

I didn't realize they differentiated so much. I looked at all the trees in an earlier beta and the skills and general set up seemed the same. For Valor the last AR fires more slowly and does more damage per bullet (with more recoil), but carries fewer bullets -- the 2nd AR is mostly an overall upgrade on the first gun. You have to buy the foregrip, though. Accuracy-wise, with foregrip and improved stability, even with the scope your gun barely moves. Scope wander becomes a bigger problem, and scope wander isn't a big deal.

Yeah, knowing the map/terrain seems critical for this game. I always thought if I had defended at the right location, we could have won the rounds.

Good to know you guys are already developing deeper skills in the game. Hopefully I can crash into your party someday.

Mag is one of the most addictive games I have played since well counter strike 1.3. I am a huge FPS devotee (mostly PC side)ever since doom. Having a PS3 most of my shooters are now on the console Resistance, Killzone 2 are very good games Killzone 2 multiplayer was loads of fun as was Modern Warfare.

However something just clicked with me almost straight away with MAG and give me that old school zing that this was something really special that can be played and enjoyed until almost unehalthy levels (late nights ahoy).

I was a CS clan leader and as such was very inovled with planning and co-ordinating vairous tactics for diffrent maps. I had a real kick out of those tactics working or all of our clan working together as a team.

Getting back to mag from the front end music, Making the "big" choice of who to pick (sever of course). And then getting into the armoury to customise the characters loadout and looks which was brilliant straight from the get go.

Unlike some I find the sounds great DTS 5.1 music and SFX really bring over the sounds of a battle. I love the SVER music to (valours not to bad either) when starting or when dominating. Usually im a run and gun type of guy using SMG's and shooting only when close enough to see the whites of the eyes type of thing.

For this though I went sniping and loved the aspect of the game. Not to just get a kill death ratio but the tactical side of trying to shut down avenues of attack or keeping avenues of attack open depending on the team mission. The sniper weapons are diffrent to especally the first and second. I found that the first sniper weapon a pretty good close combat gun for assaults when needed as it fires as fast as you can pull the triger and can be more accurate than spraying and praying.

Even when I was far down the sniper tree going second sniper, bipod, silencer bipod PDW et all (by the way sniping and headshoting with the sliencer is well superb) the other backup builds that I had with the MG heavy armour repair for close quaters offence/defence rapair jobs were entirly viable and still could do the job despite not having any specs in those areas.

I found that Valours Sab map very difficult to defend especally the one on the left where its difficult to get any real line of site on distant enemies meaning that the enemy are on top of the tower (which is indefensable from inside with the exception of claymores) before you can engage them.

I picked up some of Ravens weapons and found them very diffrent from valour and sevr at least from a visiable prespective.

The team play aspect has been handed very well IMO. And most of the people who did have mics were friendly and enjoyed working together giving each other information. I have also seen how devistatingly effective clans can be at this game where they worked together to totally shut down access to a target with the use of strategic snipers, defenders and front men even against our team who were trying their best to find a way to get into and hold the target.

I find the game very satisfying and enjoyable on an intelectual level, and some of the sniper vs sniper battles fun and rewarding.

I was playing Valor on the left hand side (you spawn in the village). An managed to get around to the ruins near to the ziggarat which holds the final objective. And even as a sniper had fun sniping people trying to get to their base to defend keeping the defnding team on their toes and doing a lot of close quater work with my PDW (for some reason they didnt ever find me as I moved allot). The m ost memrobale times was when I was sniping the base reloaded and with a start realised there was an enemy right next to me firing away.

The guy was holding a sniper weapon and shooting at my team!!! I quickly got my PDW out and shot him we were litteraly shooting at each others forces without being aware that a matter of about 4 feet seperating us lol.

Anyway soon as its out and I can get it I will purchase this. Very well designed, excellent graphics, superb volumetric smoke that actually works (gas or normal smoke grenades in particular) and deep rewarding team play make this a must own game for me. Gratz to Sony and Ziper.

I deleted the demo from my HDD & then tried to re download it but for some reason I am unable to find it in PSN as well as in my download list [only the old public beta which happened in november shows up in the list] :s

The open beta finished on monday, so thats probably the reason.

It's the Zipper magic in MAG after being on hiatus for many years. I remember a lot of CS 1.3 and other PC players commenting how Socom was the first console shooter they really liked and the game had a lot of them playing it.
