If you use the ME computer only as server, you could pop in a Knoppix CD and use that instead. Or install any Linux variant.

Not really.

Its just that ME & 98 have substantially different network systems than XP.
Its a well known compatibility problem.

You could try static IPs?
Do you have a password on the ME PC or does it just boot to desktop?
If the latter, I believe having the password helps.

Luckily I really only use the ME computer for Sat. radio and brief surfing, which works fine. By the time I want a serious computer in the basement, it will be at least XP. The ME seems to be playing nice with the XP in the family room, which is connected to the modem. This was my original goal, so I could hook onto the printer. Thanks for your help guys...
