some news from the magicbox I'd like to share:-

Sony announced new tidbits of the PlayStation Portable PSP system. It is confirmed that the machine will have four face buttons (triangle, circle, cross and square), a digital directional pad, one analog stick, two should buttons (L and R), Start and Select. Connectivity is a key feature to PSP, the machine accepts the following connections through its USB port: PSP to PS2, PSP to PSP, PSP to PC. The machine will come with rechargeable battery which expected to last for 3 - 6 hours like other high-end devices. The Universal Media Disc will have security feature to prevent piracy; and the 3D power will be more akin to PS2 instead of PSone. Developers around the world will soon receive a PSP emulator for development, and actual hardware development kit will be shipping this winter.

hope that clears things up a little.

Could PSP use something along that below as analog stick.
Now if you imagine the digital directional buttons on the left side, and O, X, triangle, Square buttons on the right that would be quite functional design for PSP.
Where would the shoulder buttons go? If the device is vertical like that below, there could be some kind of rises on the back for L1 and R1.
But more likely, the PSP will be a horizontal design, then the shoulder buttons are easier to place.

I was really hoping for 10 hours. 3-6 hours. Thats not enough for my commute [home-work-school-home] :(

Some are conjecturing 4-ish in gametime right now, but closer to 6-8 after refinement when it comes out. <shrugs> We shall see.

At any rate, it's in line with like devices and about what I expected. No doubt we'll see battery extensions, protable chargers, and similar devices to extend that amount. I think it will mainly be interesting to see if some games lean on the memory stick to store lots of common-access files and move a lot of information there so as to run the UMD drive less and conserve power.

I'm not to impressed with it, I guess once pictures and more news plus a actual showing of the product will decide my final decisions. As of now my GBA and it's huge library is staying RIGHT here :). I wonder how the psp, GCN SP, n-gauge and zodiac will all compare.

I got a game boy sp as a late birthday gift from my cousin in italy and let me tell u the thing closed is smaller than my palm. I can't really play it well. I hope the psp fits in normal sized hands well. And yet not be to bulky
