Latest drivers for Radeon 9700 Pro

I believe there are newer drivers than the official Catalyst 2.3 that fixes some problems. I believe the latest are the 6178s (7.77) at http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4081.html , if not I'd appreciate a direct link. Also are these 6178s considered "beta"?

I believe they are still going through the WHQL process, so they can be considered "beta". These drivers should contain the fixes that were in the patch that got taken down (i.e. fixes for "The Thing", "Battlefield 1942", etc.) Of course, some other things got fixed as well

yeah, that page was actually put up on the 24th...

the driver has the fixes from the d3d patch included in them plus they also include the control panels so there is no longer two seperate downloads and installs, it's all in one package now

i have been running them since they came out... no problems so far running the games i play, though i don't have 1942, mafia or the thing to try it out on, heh... ut2k3 runs great though

OpenGL_guy, tks for the confirmation that they're, uh, "officially beta" (like NV's 40.41s/40.71s)... need to inform the public in the review .

Finally, 21MB for display drivers+extras is really big. Are we going to see 40MB drivers?!?
