Reportedly, this is true. According to Jonnyram on GAF, many Japanese retailers are listing a 24,000 Yen price for the Final Fantasy XII PS2 bundle - which would suggest a drop of 5,000 Yen (i.e. PS2 would now be 15,000 Yen). FFXII is released on Thursday, a day after the briefing, so the drop may well be announced tomorrow.

Would be a nice move, but do they really need it? PS2 sales are still pretty strong aren't they?

Japan: ~25K a week.

How's it doing in Europe and the US?

As long as we can get the final hardware spec including the size and weight of the unit, controler shape, BD drive speed and all those sockets and slots I have nothing to complain about as it releases us from stupid rumors about HDMI/BD/SD card slot omission and heat problems.

They sold ~300k in the US last month. I'm guessing Europe is as strong as ever.

They may want to spur greater hardware sales still, though, to prop up software sales. And it may just be for Japan, where sales are possibly more in need of a boost than they are elsewhere (both the handhelds have been outselling PS2).

Believe me *IF* they show anything, there will be no doubt that they are real-time. ;)

Secondly, this meeting will be light on PS3 and heavy on, "Ooh! Look at our PS2 sales numbers!!!" and "Look at PSP sales!" Expect the obligatory, "Next gen will start when we say so."

Makes sense. E3 looks like a better place and time for western price related news...

Yeah, it was at E3 2000 that the US price of PS2 was announced.
