Koei president: PS3 conference - March 15

Hmmm.

That may soon change, though. At a Tokyo press conference today, Koei president Kiyoshi Komatsu stated that SCE is holding a conference next week, and he expects to receive updates then. "I really have no [new] information on the PlayStation 3," said Komatsu. "[But] SCE will be holding a presentation next week on the 15th. We expect there will be some new information regarding the PS3 then."

GameSpot confirmed with SCE that a meeting will indeed be taking place next week. However, it will be limited to third-party publishers only, with no press access.

Devs, publishers...either way we're unlikely to hear anything from it now, unfortunately.

I have obtained a list of events that are planned for this conference on the 15th.

Ken Kutaragi, Phil Harrison, Kaz Hirai, et all take the stage with all holding hands.

They triumphantly say "We are still on track for a spring launch!"

Then an announcer come on and tells everyone to have a nice day.

Ken Kutaragi and clan all leave the stage.

;)

 ...Unfortunately we will have to wait a whole 7 days longer for some PS3 info (Marcch 22)...

Don't count on it.

I now know what Sony meant with the spring thing.

it meant thats its when Sony would once again open their mouths and talk PS3 again.

It never meant "launch" at all. ;)

No one said anything about launch. I was just talking about some new PS3 info...whatever it may be. Definitely happening at GDC...Phil Harrison...March 22.

Or maybe the got the bug from NVIDIA, with their "paper launches" being nothing more than "manufacture 2 cards, send them to websites, then wait 6 months for real mass production and 2 more months until we can actually buy the damn cards!"...

Well who knows Gamespot may not be in the favorite press list of SCE this time... ;)

I doubt it, I'm sure they'd be told if it was a press event, even if an invite wasn't going to be extended to them ;)

Anyway, Next-Gen thinks there'll be public announcements soon, perhaps coinciding with this publisher-only conference:

Sources close to Sony say the company will be making "very big" PlayStation 3 announcements within the next two weeks. The company wants to get a message out before the end of its financial year (March 31). Speculation is suggesting March 15.

We understand Sony will not use Phil Harrison's GDC speech (March 22) to make its announcements, but that the firm may be looking to get its announcement out next week, if possible.

The company has scheduled a gathering of Japanese third party publishers on March 15th (Wednesday), and it's possible that a release will go out that day. Koei president Kiyoshi Komatsu says that he expects an announcement to be made.

Not holding my breath, but who knows.

So the March event is a closed event for 3rd party publishers where the press has no business attending.

To me that sounds frighteningly like a major delay that the 1st party has already been informed, and that 3rd parties will be let to know then, a day or two after the meeting there will be a press release for general public.
PS3 delayed to spring 2007?

Well, i don't think Sony would be publicising a big announcemnt "in 2 weeks" if it's a bad announcement... But hey, i've seen weirder things in my lifetime...

I think it could well be where a delay is finally confirmed to third parties and, subsequently perhaps to the public, but why would it be any more major than what we've come to expect?

Oh great :| . I'll be mid-flight between Singapore and US on 15th March. By the time I read B3D, it's probably going to be 60+ pages on this.
