There was a PlayStation conference in San Francisco (when Kuturagi was there for ISSCC). I think most people expected public information event though.

Unlikely that showing anything would do anything, even if anything were needed to be done.

There was talk from Sony that they had something 'special' or 'out of the ordinary' for February. No, I don't have a quote, and can't be bothered to look it up either :p

Reuters reports that SCE has announced that it will hold a meeting about the future strategy of the Playstation business which the SCE CEO Ken Kutaragi attentds at March 15th, 3 p.m..

TOKYO (Reuters) - Sony Corp. said on Tuesday it would hold a briefing on its PlayStation video game business on Wednesday, but declined to give details.

Sony Computer Entertainment President Ken Kutaragi will attend the briefing to be held in Tokyo at 3:00 p.m. (0600 GMT), the company said in a statement.

Sony said in late February it was still aiming to launch the next-generation PlayStation 3 (PS3) game console in spring, but added the launch could be delayed if industry specifications for some of the technology were not finalised soon.

A spokesman for Sony's game unit declined to comment on whether it will announce a delay to the launch of PS3.

You know your posts are being reposted everywhere by everyone :p

Nice, business meeting....I expect CONNECT for PSP and PS3 delay (September), sales figures and some media. Overall I think there will be plenty to mull over, debate about and 'damage control' for everyone :)

It seems Gamespot was not invited in fact ;) Major mainstream media will be there to cover it.

Will there be any live stream ? Anyway looking forward to it.

Thanks one..finally :)

My guess is Japanese PS3 launch details (timing at least) and some assorted other information, and maybe a PSP revision.

Yeah, I think its obvious its going to to be a launch time frame (maybe a price in there too), or a delay. I say that because its been forever since news about ps3, supposedly its not open to gamespot and such so i expect no media/videos/images, and it seems pretty quick notice.

Lets just hope its not a delay. o_O

Let's not hope for that, cos I think you'll be disappointed :p A launch after June is inevitable IMO. My guess is September.

I think you will see press updates with media/images etc. but perhaps not from Gamespot..they may not have been invited, but some outlets in Japan have been. Hopefully some western outlets got their freelancers in, so we don't just have to rely on Japanese reporting (though I think they'll send out press releases for the main information anyway).

You want a live stream? This is a Sony presentation, and a business presentation at that. As if their Powerpoint Slideshows weren't bad enough normally!

Expect dry numbers, hefty stats, no buzz, and maybe a release date or something slipped in when no-one's looking :D

Turns out it was initially planned just to be for business partners, but they subsequently opened it up to media and analysts:

PS3 details eyed as Sony opens meeting
Tue Mar 14, 2006 9:00 AM GMT163

TOKYO (Reuters) - Sony Corp. said on Tuesday it will allow the media and analysts to attend an annual meeting for third-party software developers of its PlayStation video game, prompting questions on whether it will give details on the launch of its next-generation console.

The meeting, in Tokyo on Wednesday, had been intended only for software licensees and was closed to analysts and reporters.

A Sony spokeswoman declined to give details of the meeting, to be attended by Sony Computer Entertainment President Ken Kutaragi, but analysts hope it will disclose the launch timing and price for the much-anticipated PlayStation 3 (PS3) console.

"These events typically address platform strategy, loyalty structures, development-related plans and other details that aren't as interesting to us, but the fact that they opened the meeting up raises the possibility that there might be more," said Yuta Sakurai, a senior analyst with Nomura Securities.

Although another analyst is sceptical that they'll announce launch details at this event..

Wierd to let the press in to learn about payment structures and stuff. That's invariably closed door stuff. Do you really want IGN splashing "Sony to charge 8.5% on every PS3 disk printed whether it's sold or not" on it's front page? Next gen is talking of tomorrow as PS3 Details Day, expecting launch timing and pricing.

Though I guess if they do release important detilas, which are relevant to developers, that's be all the press will pick up on. Very weak launch spectacle, though in these days with the internet I guess this is all Sony need, and they can save a bundle on not using a life-size Godzilla Robot to march through Tokyo and shout about PS3's launch price and date.

I doubt all business at the conference will be done in the eyes of the media - I'm sure there'll be private meetings and the like. But we might get a little more insight than we're used to..again maybe updates on development schedules/hardware etc.

As per next-gen's report, it'd be sweet to get a launch date and price, not to mention some online details. I guess we'll see what comes..

damn you internet. i wanted the life-size Godzilla Robot.

Just a heads up, but apparently the Untold Legends' announcement and media being embargoed till tomorrow is completely coincidental with regards to the briefing tomorrow. Apparently they're not connected at all. Worth noting in case it suggested that other publishers were also readying announcements timed to coincide with tomorrow's briefing.
