KILLZONE Shadow Fall [PS4]

I tried the MP briefly, doesn't feel 50-60fps to me. It was the same map both times I tried, maybe that's the reason, either that or the excessive post-processing. I do actually find the PP a little much. Otherwise a decent game.

Finally finished. It did get a bit ropey towards the end, the final 3 chapters are in need of some polish! The very final mission is a little huh!? but I guess it fits in rather nicely to plugin any additions to the series.

It does excel on the visual front though, considering it's running at 1080p it doesn't half chuck some effects arounds and the lighting is sublime. There are a couple of sections that could very easily have been a CGI film. The frame rate only ever dipped, noticeably, in a couple of scenes. If anything I would reckon it's running well north of 30fps for most of the time.

Very impressive! I can't wait to see what they bring to the table next, once they've got room to breath and an even better handle on the architecture. Things can only get better!!

I'm in the sixth level. Having a lot of fun with it so far. By far the biggest revelation has been the controller. What a nice piece of engineering. The sticks are sublime and the built-in speaker really helps with the audio logs.

Really a game I have to get into ....

The quality of the graphics is awesome, but I'm not digging all of the art. Plants and such look very drab. The quality of the lighting and smoke and such though, at Full HD and everything, this early in the generation, are very promising to me. This is the kind of thing I wanted to see improved - remove a bottleneck for some amazing graphics.

I do love the cityscapes however! We'll see when I get round to this game - I have too many games to play.

Thank you Patsu !

Not everyone is in that list. e.g., I didn't include london-boy and Shifty because they don't have PS4 at the moment.

I also saw some B3Ders in my What's New page playing PS4 games. But I forgot their B3D user id.

As you can see, not only I am no longer London-boy, but Shifty and I are now connected on a level you noobs can only dream of.

I'm getting minced at the end of Chapter 7. It's a proper KZ slogathon of a level! I'm not sure why some reviewers were down about the
space sections
, KZ has always had them, the end of KZ1 was aboard a
space station.
Chasing down the rogue admiral alphonse chopchops or whatever his name was!

They weren't down on the final stretch because it was a space station. They were down on it because the surprisingly broad and free-form sections as seen in the first half of the game were abandoned in favor of old and tired corridor slogs and half-baked, trial-and-error set pieces. "It's kinda shit, but that's okay because it's always been that way" is one hell of a poor excuse, by the way.

I am at a section with mono-rails, but I am really starting to hate on the game :(
The first 'woods' section was almost perfect, but now it feels like they ran out of ideas.. I would love to trade this game for Knack..

^The first half of the campaign is definitely better than the second, but that doesn't mean the rest isn't good. In fact, I also have Knack and it is the same: 1st half is more awesome but overall it's still good. If you need help and need some guides with that woods place definitely check out Killzone: Shadow Fall PS4 Cheats for hints, guides, etc. : )

It's actually pretty good, but pretty tough in places. It has a slight unbalance that betrays its launch game status but it is a very pretty and playable shooter. I guess it's pretty hard to avoid being a corridor shooter on a space station, they're not well known for their wide open spaces. But it's the same kind of game as all the other killzones, there's no launch title on any console that is delivering an new and unique experience. People were just expecting too much too soon.

Okay, so I'm enjoying the game so far - it's absolutely stunning. I do have some criticisms though:

Why in multiplayer does my vision have to be obscured by post processing? It's like I'm only allowed to see a circular third of the screen without blur, it's annoying because I don't always look at the centre of the screen in multiplayer, I need to see the periphery too. This also reduces the impact of the increased frame rate.

I feel like the field-of-view is a little too narrow, some of the corridors feel a little claustrophobic as a result.

I'm liking it as well. Made it past that stage 7 showdown on my second attempt. It's actually pretty easy as long as you're paying attention.

Well, I am currently in chapter 6 and the visuals just get better and better. The soundtrack is quite good too - industrial, sci-fi type... good stuff.

As far as the game is concerned though - I have to admit it isn't exactly standing out. Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me, but so far, I think I found KZ3 to be the most memorable campaign so far. Maybe I'm being a bit unfair though, I am afterall only in chapter 6 so far.

Not sure about the A.I. though. I'm only playing it on default difficulty, but so far - it's been rather easy. Never really had to think about taking cover and it's been pretty easy to shoot & run yourself through the game so far. Also, the enemies are usually a bit bullet sponges which is a bit annyoing coming from a game like BF4 where there is a lot more focus on realism and authenticy. I know, it's KZ and all, but maybe I'm reaching a point where I expect a certain amount of realism. Headshots are okay - but I think don't always garantuee an instant kill. It also seems the weapons usually have a rather high degree of spray.
Also, the A.I. it seems usually plays rather stupid - like sticks its head out or runs out behind cover when I'm already firing in that direction. They also seem rather clumsy - sometimes a bit confused in running towards me (instant death) but not shooting. It's not a big deal - just some observations.

Another thing that's a bit frustrating is the constant need to bring up the objectives to figure out where you need to be going. It would have been nice to include the objective marker to be on at all times - which would solve having to press up all the time.

Also, the post processing does seem to generate a bit of lag. While the game runs extremely smooth, it just doesn't feel as snappy as other games do. Truth be hold, it's only 30fps (single player) but the MP part suffers from this too. I know, the game has this weight aspect where you are supposed to feel the weight of your weapon, but it still feels a bit at times like playing on a television with unusally high display lag. It's especially apparent when coming from BF4 and just makes me think how much better this game would feel if they focused a bit more on a more realistic setting while keeping the science-fiction aspect.

I have to admit, the graphics are absolutely stunning though. Especially the light effects (and how the Helghast blind you) is nice. Only thing that's a bit off putting is the missing lip-synch for the most part and how the characters look unnaturally stale and emotionless.
