Capcom's gonna make Gamecube go out with a bang rather than a whimper.

So that's the boss you can only use your knife skills to defeat? Interesting. Good luck on the port Capcom, console architectural strength differences will be difficult enough to overcome, & I believe the 1st PS2 screenshot surfaced a short time ago on GAF. Not the same in quality to say the least. Capcom's gifted, but they are no KCEJ-W nor Polyphony Digital when exploiting the PS2's hardware. Much more proficient on the GC. Btw, anyone else getting somewhat of a MGS3 vibe from the first few shots?

Yeah....snake vs Ocelot. Errr...what is ocelot's real name? He mentions it in MGS3.

The military guy look like Bayman, of DOA fame. :D

There's a screen of the PS2 version? That's interesting.
Can you post a link to that picture, Li Mu Bai.

Yep, this game looks ace, and it seems to be ace - period (10/10 review in GMR, few games got a score that high)

That's news to me. I'd love to see it.

The screen wasn't verifiable by any other sources, so I can't say that it was 100% PS2. So I retract my statement chaps.

Impressions from Matt C. from IGN Cube who is currently playing the final build over his break:

"Wow. I have to say, this is just great. If it was any moodier, I'm not sure I could stand it. It's dark now. Raining. Pouring, in fact. The wind is howling, and quick, brilliant flashes of lightning temporarily illuminate the detailed landscapes. I don't know how Capcom pulled this game off, but it has to be the prettiest GameCube title to date. And damn, there are some scary twists.

If the game keeps up, it's going to be one of my favorites of all time. What a spectacular post holiday buy."

Matt

And again:

"So far, pretty damned awesome, and further polished. A good chunk of new cut-scenes and dialogue in the final build. Also, some welcomed fixes. For instance, our hero can now wield the knife at any point with the L button. Doesn't matter if you have the gun equipped. Just hold L and he brings up his knife. Such a huge improvement over the previous process, which demanded that you cycle back and forth between an inventory screen to equip the blade just so you could smash open some crates. Also, the camera stick now enables you to free look left and right in addition to up and down. Excellent stuff.

Game is freakin' gorgeous on my widescreen plasma. It runs in progressive and Dolby Pro Logic II. I use my zoom function to eliminate the letterboxing -- you should all know by now that there's no true anamorphic widescreen mode, but this alternative seems to work well and despite my skepticism it looks great. No major loss in detail with the zoom.

I'm under just about every sort of NDA in the world, so I can't talk about story details. But there is some VERY cool stuff going on. I'm really having a great amount of fun. I made my wife watch me play earlier tonight and she literally screamed five times. Pretty funny, to be honest. She was like, "Watch out behind you! Turn around! Matt, run!" Seeing as how I'm already a big pansy when it comes to this game -- I'm genuinely scared to play it alone -- her screaming was not helping!

I'll take some pics of the box for you soon. The copy Capcom sent me came with a laser print of Leon and the Chainsaw Man, a making of featurette (in which Capcom quoted me twice, which was cool), and other little goodies. Best of all, it came wrapped in a diaper with the tagline: "Don't pee your pants. (But just in case...)"

Matt

This is by far IGN's most unbiased reviewer IMO. He's extremely critical of Nintendo & many of their practises. (their lackluster advertising, not embracing online, mature software oriented content, etc.) His gaming wishlist is quite indicative I think despite him being pro-Nintendo, & managing IGN Cube:

1. Resident Evil 4 GCN board 2005-01-11 Capcom Production Studio 4 Capcom

2. Metroid Prime 2 Echoes GCN 9.5 board 2004-11-15 Retro Studios, Inc. Nintendo

3. Too Human GCN board Silicon Knights Nintendo

4. Halo 2 Xbox 9.8 board 2004-11-09 Bungie Software Microsoft

5. Killer 7 GCN board 2005-04-01 Capcom Production Studio 4 Capcom

6. Perfect Dark Zero Xbox board 2005-12-31 Rare Microsoft

7. Conker: Live and Reloaded Xbox board 2005-03-15 Rare Microsoft

8. Star Fox Assault GCN board 2005-02-15 Namco Nintendo

9. StarCraft: Ghost GCN board 2005-06-06 Swingin' Ape Studios Blizzard

UNRANKED GAMES (his unranked favorites )

Killzone PS2 7.5 board 2004-11-02 Guerilla Games Sony Computer Entertainment

Pikmin 2 GCN 9.3 board 2004-08-30 Nintendo Nintendo

Yeah Matt is alright. I cannot wait for RE4. BTW your sig is in the Bible somewhere. "Tangible things have no permanence".

Definitely pro Nintendo. :)

Surely, SC:G would look best on the xbox considering it is the base platform (and graphics would usually be the tie breaker for multiplatform). ;)

(not a flame or anything, just an observation)

Thanks for the Screens Chryz. Those are just....

I don't think anyone would suggest that Matt isn't pro Nintendo, he's the editor of IGNCube after all. But he's clearly a very open minded fair person considering his job. Also he's hardly going to list the XBox version of a multiplatform game that's on GameCube just out of assumption that it will have better graphics on XBox. It would be quite unprofessional for him to do that IMO.

The fact that Matt ranks Killzone as one of his favs makes him most unbiased person in my eyes.
