Quick update-

"My wife called to say that my Xbox Pro Holiday Bundle arrived. Here's the info from the box:

Lot: 0837
Team: FDOU
12V DC, 14.2A, 5Vsb, 1A

When I get home, I'll have to look through the vents to see what's inside. I'll have to re-read this forum to see what I'm looking for as I don't remember. 0837 is hopeful, but 14.2A isn't."

And heres the proof.

Ok, sorry to make everybody wait so long. I go to school in the evenings after work and just got home. Here are a few pictures:

At this point, I don't really know how to peak inside or what to look for. If anybody can walk me through it (without voiding the warranty) let me know.

And heres the link

Im not sure on the current status of things. This was sourced from Amazon and the rumors suggested that this lot number should pertain to a Jasper unit, but from this one guy theres no indication from the PSU/Sticker or a quick glance inside the unit with a torch that this is anything but a Falcon v2 (Memory update).

Except at the same time this follows the pattern last year with the Falcon units shipping with the older PSUs and heatsinks etc until the old part stock cleared. So yes this *might* or *might not* be a Jasper, the only way to tell at this point is a Killawatt and/or yanking the heatsink off the GPU and posting pictures for the world to see.

Sorry, but that hardly counts as anything conclusive... I was expecting some photos of the chips (involves voiding warranty of course).

Whoops. I accidently put the wrong title in, could you change it to something like

"Update for the Jasper hunt, Lot 0837 shipping with Holiday bundles but no confirmation of Jasper yet"

Sorry about that!

Tell me if my reasoning is out to lunch, but 12V * 14.2A = 170.4W ... which is the same as a Falcon.

My friend has a bundle unit with the same date. Its a falcon unit. I messured the temps and its the same as my 60 gig from july .

So it seems the rumours were false regarding those particular lot numbers?

No. We know smaller chips will be around eventually - they're not going to stick at 65nm CPU, 90nm GPU forever!

I think we will see the 65nm gpu early next year. It would make sense to go with the setup you know than to switch to another set up during your biggest sales point. Imagine if they had another rrod problem with the new gpu and they shipped a few million of them over the holiday. That would be a huge problem for ms who still has the rrod problem looming over them.

Microsoft must be laughing all the way to the bank with all these people buying 360 after 360 in the hope they get one of the "new" ones that presumably are more reliable.

You mean the falcon units ? If you buy one now you will automaticly get a jasper unit. Check the tracking thread on neogaf. We've hit a year now since the falcons have been in the wild and the failure rate is extremely low.

Do you have a link to that thread?

nope. I'm not a member of that forum so no search functions.

Same here. That's the reason it was asked for :D.

Why do you talk about a thread and facts without being able to tell us where it actually is ;)?

If you buy one now you will automaticly get a jasper unit.

How can you be sure about that? Some users would already have reported it, if Jasper Xbox 360 consoles are on sale now, wouldn't they?

Such news usually make the rounds very quickly.

The thread was linked on this forum a while back. Next time its on the front page I will post it.

Sorry I mean falcon rev 2 . The one with the lack of memory on the bakc of the motherboard.

I upgraded to this unit and so far its run much cooler , uses much less energy and the drive bay makes a lot less noise. I could still stand a reduction in drive noise over what I have now , but with a 60 gig hardrive or even a 120 in an elite and the install function coming out next month its good enough for me. I only hear it on games like mass effect.

http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=49447 here I posted power an d heat measurements from the launch 360 , 60 gig 360 and the 40 gig ps3.

that just sounded astonishingly :D.

here are some stat info i found at neogaf

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=13169433&postcount=8864

THis one is just a graph of how many have died each month. It doesn't tell alot

Here though

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=13169510&postcount=8865

Ok. It's been one year since the Falcon model 360 was released (technically it's missing about 10 days but it's close enough).

1 Year of Falcon Issues
1RL: 2
DOA: 4
RRoD: 7
Video: 3
Total: 16

Here's some other rough numbers for perspective.

1st Year of Tracked 360s
635 dead (no specific info, only started doing that this year)

360s Reported In November 2006
42 dead in one month (98 was highest ever)

So thee falcon in its first year has had 16 failed units at neogaf. The 1st year of 360s had 635 dead.

I believe if you buy now with the newer falcon revisions out in the wild you will be fine. The failure rate seems to be inline with the ps3 and wii's now. You can say well its only been a year with the falcon units , however a year was enough to show a massive number of failures on the original launch year units.
