Itagaki Offers His Expert Oppinion On Competitors Games, Mentions Tekken verybriefly

Funny... his top 5 are interesting.

His bottom 5 are funny  He actually said he liked 1-3, but his honor was insulted when Namco *supposedly* did some below the belt advertising (a no-no in Japanese culture). That explains why VF is not in his sights. It really seems to be a "Tekken" thing.

1UP.com's 13year old reader base is going nuts I am sure. Good pub (I am sure every major site and magazine will mention this blood fued, which can only help DoA4 sales) but it is very funny in a stupid way... sad in another.

Anyone got popcorn? I cannot wait until Namco opens up a Nina on his candy apple aspen!

I have no doubt if he recognised the highs of the Tekken series, Dead or Alive would turn into a better game.

That seems to be the hardcore consensus. Someone was pointing out the DoA is more of a "mainstream" fighter. I wonder if that has anything to do with the contrast?

Honestly, I really like Tekken (although I enjoyed the timing aspect of VF much more). I would not mind if all fighters copies Tekken or VF, but it does seem some people like DoA (for some reason I cannot get over the fact it is the "anime"... guh!!!)

I do think, based on his other interview, that he does like T1-3. So maybe he is considering them... personally, I think he is being a crap-mouth to get more pub for his new game. I think it is ALL cheap marketing tactic. LOW imo, but I would not put any emphasis in it.

Especially that Tekken stinks... I quite like Tekken. If it sucks, well, then I like crappy games!

But I thought the Tekken series is more mainstream even among "mainstream" (at least in terms of sales and recognition). So perhaps what he thinks of the DOA series as mainstream is a bit off. I sometimes even thinks that that was one of the reason he doesn't like it to be in the arcade market anymore. Many times, the Tekken board gets line while many left the DOA open.

One of the reason he likes to bash the Tekken series is because his pride won't allow him to swallow the fact that it (Tekken) beats his own hard work. Though Virtua Fighter is possibly the best among hardcore fighting fans, it's just not there in terms of sales to be a threat to DOA (plus he said something about it as one of his inspiration, or something).

But yes, I do agree with him regarding Tekken outside the fighting genre (Devil Within, Nina, etc). Especially when compared to DOA spin-off.

BTW, this is coming from a big fan of the genre (3D). Though I stopped playing Virtua Fighter 4 long ago simply because there's no competition around. I don't know, but I really get bored with AI (as with sports title). So hopefully, VF5 goes online (hoping the same for Tekken and SC).

Agreed. It's becoming more apparent that this guy's way of getting exposure is by making cheap remarks about others, and the whole internet thinks it's newsworthy sh*t and report on it. Pathetic! Personally, I think he needs to quit trying to be "Mr Tough Guy" with all this crap he's talking about Tekken, and focus on making DOA more than a smack-my-bitch-up's (yeah, new genre he's created - SMBU's:LOL:)
