Is Gamecube in peril?

I have a GameCube and I love it (so far) but Nintendo shouldn't be so focused on profit that they start to ignore their user-base. That's how they're going to lose in the end, if anything. If they want to remain viable in the home console market, they have to get more exclusive.. high-end.. 3rd-party games. Things like MGS and Final Fantasy are a good start, but Nintendo should start paying publishers/developers to make polished software for GameCube.

What are you dreaming ?? Microsoft would kill to have RE,MGS and FF all on board for its consoles. Do you imply MGS and FFCC will not be polished software, or what ??

Wazoo: That's a start, Wazoo. It's only a handful of games though, 2 of them (RE:R and MGS:TS) being remakes.

GCN's game quantity is lagging compared to the competition, and the quality of 3rd-party releases has been lower on average.

This is a very dumb thread

Why is it dumb? Because it outlays many of Nintendo's/Gamecube's faults? Get real, I guess we all know who the big N FB is around here.
hOW CAN SOMETHING THAT IS MAKING MONEY BE A FAULT ? If anything it's simply sony fans hoping for the demise of the Nintendo, just look at some of the info posted by ben for further understanding of my position. But I guarentee if I start a thread discussing MS chance to snatch 1st place next Gen you'll be the main one in their throwing insult's and claiming it won't happen.

Johnny:

As long as great games keeps coming out for the thing - which is the case - who gives a flying fuck if the cube's "in trouble" (your words) or not?

I wish the wolf-cryers would just go away.

Yeah, I doubt you. GameCube isn't in peril as long as games keep coming, IMHO.

It's still no.2 worldwide, anyways..

It's plainly in peril. But things would be worse if PS2 and Xbox had killer holiday lineups this year. I'm not sure I see that, either.

Why in heck did THIS thread get resurrected pointlessly when we're already talking about linked factors relating to this in others concerning the GC anyway?

It might be in peril, not because of bad game line-up, but because it doesn't get the recognition and attention it deserves as a gaming machine.
MS is much more agressive in claiming the 2nd position, Nintendo just seems to trust too much that people will eventually find the GC because of their excellent games.
I believe if GC had DVD playing capabilities (IMO it is not needed, but for most buyers it is a big minus against PS2 and xb), it would sell much more, and we'd be asking instead 'Is xbox in peril?'
I personally would love to own the GC. I have only PS2, and would so much like to play Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, Ikaruga, Zelda: the Wind Waker, RE Zero, F-Zero, Rogue Squadron II... and not to mention the coming games.
But for some reason, I have not got myself to purchase the GC :? guess It'd be too expensive to get games for two systems, not to mention find the time to play them all.

Well said rabidrabbit!
Nintendo just isn't being aggresive in perusing market share. I have friends who haven't even heard of 'Gamecube'. Their pre-launch marketting was non-existent in this country. I walk into my local video store and you can find lots of green XBOX game boxes, heaps of PS2 titles but not a single GC title. It's quite sad really..

I think it comes down to something very simple . If the game cube comes out with 20 games a year and 15 of them are tripple a and the rest are horrible. Is that any worse than the ps2 with a 100 games a year and only 15 of them being good and the rest being crap ?

That's a pretty big 'if' there JVD and you know it.

So maybe not all of those 100 games are golden, but one man's trash is anothers treasure, and I think it applies here. When you have more to choose from, that only equates to better things for the consumer. Sure not all of them are worth playing to you, but then again, not everybody likes the same titles either. MGS2 got rave reviews from almost all critics, whether it be from hype or not matters not, because I love it - however, I also know that not everyone else likes it. So with variety, there comes the ability to cater to every preference.

Besides, you can't just say that 15 games are "good" and the rest are crap. I think almost (there are some exceptions of course) all games have their own strengths that make them worth a try.

Yes. Because as you quite well know, the public at large is very-much used to buying crap. And ya gotta HAVE crap to sell crap! ;)

That was the humerous answer, but seriously, this is one of the most overused statements by people in regards to consoles ever. Have the standards for everyone just jumped monolithically high or something? Do people simply discount things based on names they don't like, licenses they don't care for, or worse yet, by advertisement or simple word of mouth? Are the only two levels of games anymore "instant classic" or "crap"? Sheesh... Games have to STRIVE to be total crap. The rest are a myriad of levels that an individual may not care for (or simply doesn't think are worth owning, or even not owning quite YET and is waiting for it to be cheaper) but will be enjoyed by other individuals, other age groups, other nationalities...

Or are people seriously putting stock into comments that a Mac gamer might also use? ;)
