Image Quality Comparisons, Some thoughts.

The amount of bandwith it would save is unbelievable!

We wouldn't need the hundreds of review sites. Just B3D.

We wouldn't need the long discussions on these forums. It's enough when Dave tells us he doesn't see a difference. He doesn't need to create blind tests for us to debate about, or post large screenshots.

Now all we need to figure out is what else we will waste all that free bandwith on :)))

Digi probably has some suggestions on that?

Ask jvd. He's the 1Terabyte-of-porn guy...

No way, I'm still trying to figure out just what to do with EB's new monthly 1TB limit ("limit"<----AH-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!! :D ) that we got....we normally never exceeded 20GB a month. ;)

I don't think just trusting Dave is a good idea, 'specially since he's never got back to me on a question about one of his judgement calls; but also because it's just pretty damned stupid to trust one source when there are so many to cross-check on.

The solution isn't huge uncompressed movies, enlarged high-contrast screenshots or mathematical forumlas that compare bit patterns. There is a much more simple way - a trusted reviewer's opinion. If Dave says he can't notice any IQ difference then I'll trust him on that. That's why we have reviews.

the bether solution: everyone gets every card sent, and he can choose the one he likes :D (everytime a new is out, again:D)

for free, of course.

Nah, never create single points of failure when there are large vested interests involved. Otherwise Dave is liable to find his pussy missing one day and a note that says "Give us a good review or Mr. Fluffy gets it!"

EDITED BITS: For some strange reason I thought BB was Chalnoth. ? It's late, I'm tired; good-night!

Uhh, gee thanks DW, now you REALLY made my day....did not think it could ever get THAT late ANYWHERE.....LOL

The trusted reviewer is a simple solution, but not a very practical because there are very few reviewers I trust enough for that.
How many do you need, really? If there are 3 sites you trust and they all say the same thing, isn't that enough? Personally I don't want to download 500MB video and squint at them for hours on end trying to spot some disparity. I don't want to stare at pixelated screenshots that look like something that the Hubble Telescope has taken. I'd rather spend the time doing what I actually want a video card for, and that's playing games.

Alternatively, of course, you could try the other proven strategy for purchasing a video card:- Ally yourself to one manufacturer and just buy whatever they make, regardless, and then convince yourself (by arguing on forums) that your choice was the best. I believe it works for a lot of people :)

Well, I never did get that copy of TW2k4 to review... ;)

Sorry again for the error. I didn't mean it insultingly, I like Chalnoth too. (I don't usually agree with Chalnoth on viddy card preferences, but we got a whole lot more in common than I think either of us cares to admit...we just root for different teams. ;) )
