I spend much more time playing games on my PS2 than on my PC

I'm more likely to buy a no-name console game and enjoy it than I am with a no-name PC game.

Why is that?

No-name PC games require you to read a 800 page manual, or read a 400 minutes Powerpoint presentation on how the cutting edge strategic AI engine works in symbiosis with the player? All after spending 8 hours installing it, taking away a big chunk of your hard drive and still requiring you to have the disc inside, while you could store lots of porn on the same space?

While no-name PS2 games require you to turn the PS2 on, put the disc inside, pick up the controller and have an undisclosed amount of fun (depending on the game)? Like, straight away...?

PS2 games are like casual sex, No strings attached. PC games are more like marriage.

(Now THAT is sig material)

Done!

I was playing my PS2 a lot more until HL2... The PC has very few "pick up and play" type games that are addictive without having to first spend 30 mins getting into the game. A quick tournament on ISS is still one of my favourite weekend passtimes. HL2 is just one of those AAA titles that come around every now and then and blow your socks off, like Zelda: OOT or MGS on hte PS1.

You need hl2 ;) Ok, so even that takes about 30 mins to get into.. but ONCE you do, you won't let go, promise.

30mins??? yeah, right... it's gonna take me at least until the 26th to play it anyway sooo...

Because you probably need a break from FPS, RTS, MMORPG, or Sims games?

No seriously - I'm definitely in the same boat as you, except I'm slowly even moving away from console games...

Seems the only games I do play these days are Space Channel 5 Part 2, or the translated SNES Super Robot Wars 3 :p

I think it really all comes down to money. PCs are really expensive. Not as expensive as they used to be, but they are still a lot more expensive than consoles. For people to constantly upgrade to PCs that can play the latest games, there needs to be enough really good games out there to entice them. At the same time, the cost of developing games has gotten much much higher. Where a developer previously might have only needed to spend $500k to make a game, now it might cost them in the millions, so a lot of small developers go under or get bought by the likes of EA. As developers go under, less games are made, thus less people upgrade their computers, and thus less people who might have otherwise bought a new game don't because they don't want to invest the money for new computer hardware. Similarly, there is a lot less justifcation for upgrading computers these days for "business" purposes. There isn't much of a reason to buy a $500 video card other than to play videogames with.

I think ultimately the reason you play games less on your PC is because there are a lot less games to choose from now days. That, and there are many more games to choose from on consoles.
