I, Robot trailer... featuring Will Smith.

Too bad he's not alive. Anyone remember Frank Herbert's comments on the David Lynch version of Dune? I think the expression was piece of shit film.

The thing that bugs me is the movie kind of looks cool to me, but WHY on earth did they have to name it "I, Robot." when it's blatantly obvious that it is not? :(

Dang it, they could have titled it something else and said "based on a short-story from 'I, Robot.'" or "based in the world of Asimov's law of robotics" or some such...why did they have to diss one of the best fictional works on robots of all time?!? :devilish:

Yes its Will Smith but its also Alex Proyas helming. After The Crow and especially Dark City Im really hopeful for this one.

Isn't there a way to sue these people? I mean that just looks w r o n g!
They do have to buy the right to make the movie, so blame whoever in Asimov's family (or asimov himself) for selling the rights to the movie.

Well, Chris Tolkien, John's youngest child and executor of the Tolkien estate, hates the Peter Jackson films. You just can't make everyone happy. ;)

Before clicking I thought, "How bad can it be?"

After watching the first bits of the preview, I thought, "Okay, not too bad."

Continuing on... my God. You bastards. What have you done?

It was more a fact that they didnt get a cut from the movie. ;) Tolkien sold the movie right a long time ago, while still alive. So the estate didnt get crap out of it directly. Hope CT can let it go and negotiate in good faith for the movie rights to the hobbit.

Rights to the hobbit are already owned by one studio (with distribution rights to another for some odd reason). We are likely to see it done and in theaters in 2-4 years.

Now silmarillion is likely still in the hads of CT... After reading it recently I think there are fantastic stories in there for more flicks but thats my own opinion... I doubt PJ will do more after the hobbit...

After these comments, i'm not going to bother clicking on the link... i've seen a picture around and i must ask, what is it with the style of robots? used in Bjork's "All is full of love" video, amazing, then i keep seeing it around in Maya presentations... exactly the same style. And this is the same...
Cant people just find something new to do?? Or am i missing something and making myself look like a fool? :? :D

I don't think I ever read "I, robot". It's a collection of short stories, isn't it?

The beginning of the trailer reminded me of "Dead robot". The rest of the trailer reminded me of standard evil-machines-movie 1A.
Oh well, we'll see. Or someone will, at least.

Tolkien sold the movie rights to Saul Zaentz in the late '60s, who in turn sold them to New Line (I believe). But the estate has certainly seen a sharp increase in book sales and movie tie-in merchandise.

the interogation scene reminded me of the Animatrix where one of the robots is put on trial...

I dunno.. I might watch this movie for the heck of it... rather this than most of the other crapolla out there right now...

I thought that was what he said before the films were made, on the basis that he didn't think anyone could do the book any kind of justice (ie, it's was unfilmable), but after the movies came out, he thought they were pretty good and much better than he expected.

Thats why I said that "the estate didnt get crap out of it directly", .They got it from the increased sale of books (that werent tied in with the movie).
