HOw will MS counter the "1TFlop" PS3?

Will the usual PC stuffs be enough? Any idea on how future ATI Nvidia cards will be like?

I believe Xbox2 will match PS3 power for power, maybe even surpass Sony crazy architechure. I mean crazy parallel systems are not too known for good performance.

Presently, if only a handful of teams can push PS2 well, i think that number will drop significantly with PS3. Maybe the big guys like Sony, EA, Konami, Square can work fully with PS3.

Direct X might be the distinctive factor here.

I think, sony is going to surprise everyone with the actual specs. Nvidia will most likely get the contract again, and MS will have to spend a couple of billions in the manufacturing side of things, and another few billions for the nvidia gpu, with all that they'll delay and arrive a year later, with h/w that will exceed the ps3. Still, I think whoever gets the MS contract, likely nvidia, will most likely make about 12+B$$$ in the next console cycle, they can force MS to pay up.

Quit crabbing about the poster. Just answer the question that this thread was posted for. If you don't have an answer then don't post.

we're just picking on him because he's an old friend-troll. besides, how are we going to answer the question anyway? can u possibly answer the question? we do not even know whether PS3 will be able to get to 1Tflop... we dont even know if Nintendo will have a next generation console for that matters..... gosh take it easy... the question was ridiculous and its only going to get non-serious answers... its all speculation and we already have like 3 threads full of speculation.... we can keep posting on those ones, which by the way are far more interesting and serious than this one.

for what? As I see it, the poster just wants some confirmation that "1Tflop" is anything but impressive and that Microsoft will come up with something even better..

Anyway, to bring this on topic - what is the current floating point performance in current cards? I've heard various remarks about NVFLOPS, so I'm thinking that Nvidia has some special misleading numbers of their specs (anti aliased - pixelfillrate comes to mind). So my question is, what's that NVFLOP and what are current graphicscard capable of considering 'real' FLOPs?

Right now, I'm thinking the only way XBox2 will equal or surpass PS3 is if XBox2 uses several Nvidia or ATI VPUs in parallel. Ive said that before btw.

Intel and AMD will not match the BroadBand Engine (the Cell based CPU)
1Tflop+ power

either will Nvidia or ATI have a VPU that makes up for the relatively simple CPU that will be in XBox2. a single ATI or Nvidia VPU wont be enough, even if its souped up NV50+ or R500+. only multipule VPUs together will be enough to make up for that lack of power. just IMHO. ATI/Nvidia will be stuck with whatever process TSMC can offer. probably wont design a single chip with over 1 Billion transistors.
(Broadband Engine and Visualizer combined could be 1.5~3 Billion transistors)

If im wrong, im wrong. thats just the way i see things as of right now
(which is very early) technology changes so fast that perhaps a single
ATI R550 or NV55 will be enough to smash PS3. (a total reversal of what i said above)

BroadBand Engine?
Hmm, I prefer the name Emotion Engine. It looks like Sony have taken a step backwards already.
