How much DLC have you bought so far?

In response to a post in another thread suggesting people (Wii U owners) aren't particularly interested in download content and of those who are, 25 GBs of available storage in Wii U 23gb model will be enough, I thought it worth floating this out for review.

How many download games have you bought/got on your system?
How much DLC have you bought/got?

How much non-media content are you using on your console?

I suppose GB figures are the most relevant to the topic, although a ballpark amount you've spent would be good to determine if DLC is an important revenue steam or one Nintendo can mostly ignore.

On my 250GB hard drive, I have under 83GB free. It is used entire of digital download games, dlcs, or game installations. After I have fully completed a game, I uninstall the main game-content from dvd but keep the addons/dlcs/save-games around.

If the games would be available on XBL on launch day, I'd have all my titles as digital downloads. Unfortunately they do not, so my usage is lower than it would be otherwise.

15.51 GB for full game downloads
24.32 GB for DLC addons
13.04 GB for XBL Arcade games
04.34 GB for Kinect Apps(Games).

There are plenty of Xbox Dashboard apps that I have not figured out the sizes of that helps build the user experience.

In my experience, the 3GB available on the base model WiiU is a major issue.

I am still composing my list, but here's what I have so far... The DLC is missing Fallout 3 DLCs, Oblivion and it's DLCs as well as all the DLCs for Dance-Central games.

I just downloaded Rachet and Clank All 4 One...16GB.

If Wuu is only 8GB, with 3 left...or even 25. It is a joke, unacceptable. Even a system with :love:00GB is not enough for next gen imo.

Nintendo did again manage to push their new system from my wish list.

Probably about 15 Live Arcade games and a good amount of DLC for series, like the Battlefield, Mass Effect, Fable, Left 4 Dead, Borderlands etc.

I don't know how the Wii U works, or if there is a concept of game installs. If not, then that storage space is at best barely enough.

What if Nintendo offered cloud storage? Is that even feasible for DLC?

Anyway, it does seem like a lot of storage space is necessary if MS/Sony/Nintendo want to monetize the platforms.

And personally, I really hope that next gen has DLC games day and date with disc launch. I hate discs.

It would be if everybody had unmetered 100Mbit/s+ fiber connections. :) 200Mbit/s or more preferably. A bit unfeasible in reality really; the I/O load on the cloud servers quickly becomes tremendous at such high speeds and (tens of) millions of customers.

For my PS3, I bought the DLC for Folklore, Dante's Inferno, Starhawk (which I ended up not playing much) and Burnout: Paradise City. On PC, it's mostly Team Fortress stuff (bloody hats! lol), various Bethesda games like Oblivion, Skyrim and the Fallouts, and also the original Borderlands.

I have about 35GB of downloaded content (no full games, just live titles and dlc) on my 360, but I've deleted a few live titles that I'm done with.

Need a black sheep in here:smile:

On the consoles, I haven't actually bought any DLC.
The DLC I have is map packs included with the games(and some other free content), and an XBLA game I've been lucky to get in a drawing.
Only 2GB or so is taken up by my downloaded stuff.

A quick check of my PS3 shows me that I have 103Gb left out of 500Gb, so 397Gb of DLC and download only games.

Won't this annoy publishers who are increasingly trying to monetise their AAA releases with extra DLC? It seems the only way to make the AAA development model work is to increase the average revenue from say ~$32 for a new release game to $45-50 with DLC. Then if the game is successful it gives an opportunity to re-release the game of the year version for extra sales.

My replacement PS3 is lacking a lot of content I've bought over the years, and I don't think there's an easy way to get totals from PSN. However, on my current PS3 I currently have about 10 GBs of download games and a good 10+ GBs of Game Data. This one surprised me. There are quite a lot of 2 and 3 GB files. Borderlands, Civilisation Revolution, Starhawk and Valkyria Chronicles. Some of that will be installs.

I can't find any way on the new PSN store to see content one's already purchased!

On my 120gb hard drive I still have about 26gb free. 58gb is taken up by games & game data. 20gb of demos, 2gb videos & rest is misc stuff like themes, game pictures, avatar items & system items. I also checked my downloaded content & I have downloaded almost 2200 different items across almost 6 years. 115 are game addons, 35 are full Arcade games, 40 full Indie games, 135 disc game demos, 29 apps, 867 Arcade & Indie trial games, the rest is split up among Gamer Pics, Themes & Avatar items.

Since psn plus started dishing out retail releases ive been juggling all my downloads. my 320gb hdd is always a full luckily lots of the psn games have been fps's so i've been able to cull them each month at the minute. Pretty much bought all dlc for games ive enjoyed my download list has over a thousand entries about 40-60 between demos and stuff ive bought.

Think about it this way. Current generation "green"/"eco" 5400-5900 RPM drives average greater than 1 Gbit/s. Drives from 10 years ago were already higher than 600 Mbit/s.

Only a small percentage of developed countries have 100 Mbit/s broadband.

This doesn't even take into account the potential impact of file access times. File requested to file transfer started.

Hence, I'm not sure that cloud storage would help terribly much unless people wouldn't mind either extremely long level load times and/or long game startup times as data is preloaded.

I am on a only DD release diet :) But my 500GB HDD has been "full" for a while, usually I have to delete to download something new.

I was hoping the new slimmer PS3 would use less power and be more quiet, then I would probably gone for it with a new TB size drive. But nobody has claimed anything in regards to it being more quiet so.

I'll only add my 360 content since this is my main console since 2006.

69 XBLA titles
2 GoD titles
28 DLC packs
7 games installed on the HDD
No apps so far

250gb HDD here with 89GB free space.

If you followed the teachings of the Gaming Gods you would now you need at least a terabyte

Well, that is exactly what I think. I just wanted to point out that even the HDD resources this gen (320GB PS and 250GB Xbox in my case) won't be enough for next gen.

I hope that I am able to buy all games as downloads in next gen. Steam on PC shows how to do it for years now. And I want to do this without worrying or managing HDD space!

What people here in this thread are totally missing or hardly using is movies. I use PS and Xbox to watch them. Often I stream them. But sometimes I preload them and watch the other day. A movie takes up about 4-7gig.

It is comfortable and a major plus point to not worry about your HDD resources imo.

DLC i have not bought much. Some for Mass Effect and something for Fable, I don't remember having bought more than that.

I have bought though 31 arcade games and quite a few in cue to get soon. When arcade games were like 50 MB it was not a problem, now they are most of the time over 1 Gig, it does add up, especially with all the demo versions and stuff...

I've got PS Plus on my PS3, together with a whole host of PSN games and content I've been buying since 2007.

All in all I have a 1TB HDD on my PS3, and I have about 350GB free, with the rest being all my games. Some of the PS Plus games I have are massive too (e.g. up to 15GB each). So I really needed the space.

I love the convenience of being able to launch games directly from the HDD, particularly MP online games like StarHawk, WarHawk, Killzone 3 online etc.

Until a WiiU comes bundled with at least 250GB HDD space i'm not interested (well... actually that's a lie, I'm just not interested anyway).
