just make sure they able to supply the GPU at 16x PCIE 3. Some combination of motherboard/cpu/gpu makes the GPU stuck at 8x PCIE3 at max. no issue for all games except horizon zero dawn.

Would I sound stupid if I ask how I'd check for that?

yep, GPU-Z and CPU-Z will show it after all the things are assembled.

But before buying/assembling... i think the only way to know is by looking at user experience. As from my experience and from googling around, you cant really trust motherboard manufacturer's spec sheet.

Kinda similar with RAM spec sheet. Everything should be the same but you risk of incompatibility (or different performance profile) if using different RAM model number despite it was from the same brand, and the model number only differ one digit.

You have to go beyond the simple spec sheet and see actual system connection diagrams to which physical slots which will show the exact lane breakouts possible.

even then, its still not a guarantee to get 16x. The GPU, Motherboard, OS, will also give no info what causing it unable to do 16x.

anyway, AFAIK currently its only HZD that helped tremendously with 16x. Dunno how the trend will be when games will start targeting PS5 / XSX.

    When I hit the "Render" button by the Bus Interface box it says "PCIe x 16 3.0 @ x16 3.0", but it alternates to "PCIe x 16 3.0 @ x16 1.1" sometimes...that isn't right, is it?

Its the best behavior. Properly go to 16x3 when doing things, goes down to power save mode 16x1.1 when idling

It's supposed to do that for power savings. You can change that in the Windows power settings though.

Not that I know of unless it's malfunctioning and not setting it to PCIe3 when it's supposed to. I've never heard of that happening.

Slight annoyance, after the windows 10 2004 update it had to rebuild the shader cache the next time I fired it up. :|

And i got a extremely annoying mouse problem, whenever i select something my laser mouse twitches, on the second day after the 2004 update. Very strange it didn't do this right of the bat.

And that for a pretty 'bad' port.

Nah, probably less as I'm sure a lot of people returned the game. But it is true, money is on software.

Sony needs a PC porting team and stop outsourcing these ports.

edit: Last patch apparently fixed a lot of the issues
