It seems there is light at the end of the tunnel for those of you who thought Valve were making a mistake releasing Half Life 2 for the Xbox instead of the 360.

It seems that not only will Half Life 2 (released on the 18th November) be fully compatible with the Xbox 360, but also that the game has upgraded textures and features built in that will only become available when the game is played on an Xbox 360, in a similar manner to Halo 2.

This is an uncomfirmed report, but it would make a lot of sense for Valve to do this as it would encourage early 360 adopters to buy their game even though it was primarily intended for mere Xbox owners.

This would be a HUGE benifit to consumers and developers 1 disk optimized for both Xbox and XB360

I'd prefer a completely reworked HL2 for X360, but i don't think that's gonna happen any time soon... This "updated" version will look like the Xbox version, with some sharper textures and some better shaders... running at 720p with some AA... good enough for some i guess...

why would you think it's bunk when it's possible with a game as old as Halo 1?

Not to mention 360 dev kits were available during the start of HL development for the Xbox AND it's a PC game and from what we hear M$ is making it as easy as possible for PC dev's to bring their games over to 360.

I'm not saying it's not bunk but it would be a pretty smart move by Valve they may just sell a copy to me if it's true, I don't see why io'ts not technically possible after what we've seen with halo1,2.

I don't see why they couldn't make the 360 version look as good as a PC at 1024x768 with all the settings cranked.

Well they can def release a 720p upgrade with fsaa , they can also possibly enable hdr for the game ala lost coast and they can send a highly compressed package of textures (highly doubt it) for texture upgrades .

I do believe the 720p , fsaa and hdr are all feasible . Heck throw in aniso

Also for all we know half life 2 xbox already has enhanced textures . If they had dev kits when doing the game they may have added some upgrades to the game. Perhaps to advertise and give the game a second life on the system. Though i do doubt the textures will be true .

I think we will see all games play in a higher res

So you doubt it will even be in 720p too? You seem to have a very pesimistic attitude(not that thats TOTTALLY unjustified)

Well, since this game was made after X360 best kit has been avaiable, it actually has a chance that they coded the game so that Xenos could output as 720p via frame buffer tiling (unlike Halo 1 and 2), but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

I don't see what the problem is 720p no fsaa fits into 1 tile . So at the very least they can do 4x fsaa .
