Hi Def Video Formats: Post CES 2007 Snapshot

Here are your direct Porn related answers from a Sony insider:

This leads me to conclude that the current replicators are either turning down porn studios and/or the cost to manufacture is simply too high for porn studios. Remember, they don't sell millions of copies per titles. Instead they produce a ton of titles and sell fewer copies per title thus making authoring/replication costs even more critical.

So summing it all up, it is likely not financially viable for porn studios to put out BR porn at this time than say Sony/BDA prohibiting. However, Sony themselves will not do the replication. They'll likely have to farm it off overseas, get the copies back and distribute.

Blu Print is the authoring software for those wondering.

So Sony can overrule the right to free speech and dictate what we can and can't watch? What a load of bollocks! Sony can't dictate what other people put on BD media.

Is that what you told your mum when she smacked your ass for having a potty mouth when you were 4? And then she said "I'm not the bleeding government so shut the heck up, you!"

Nice, RobertR1. So at this point it sounds like a supply/demand issue more than anything. Supply is tight enough that suppliers (replicators) can afford to be picky/choosy at this point.

And, evidently, here it is from Vivid's perspective:

http://www.dailytech.com/Adult+Content+Confirmed+to+Appear+on+Bluray+HD+DVD/article5686.htm

“Sony is not giving any assistance in the authoring or replication of adult content on Blu-ray,†said Hirsh. “Sony is somehow trying to keep away such material from the format, which I think is a mistake.â€

Without Sony’s help, Vivid had to find authoring and replication facilities on its own. Hirsh added that Sony puts restrictions on all Blu-ray manufacturing facilities that produce Disney titles disallowing them from making adult content. By comparison, the manufacturing process for Vivid’s HD DVD adult titles is much easier as it is able to make use of existing facilities.

Adult content on Blu-ray Disc format may appear in greater numbers once there are more production facilities available. “Part of the problem [with Blu-ray] is that it’s a new format,†Hirsh said. “There are very few replicators right now.â€

While sony might not be able to force anyone into doing anything it doesn't say that they can't make it VERY difficult like say attempting to block BR license renewals.
