Every time I check this thread lately I feel like I'm walking into someone's bedroom at an entirely inappropriate moment...
yeah i appreciate Cyan's enthusiasm but I keep thinking, surely there is a Might n Magic thread already..? otoh it's the only thread i follow on b3d which is currently active... so actually it's kind of adorable to see him gush over an ancient game... ^^
I gotta admit that I've fallen in love with Heroes of Might and Magic series for dear life. PC gaming is also unique and I actually understand the appeal of it, I love it, actually --not crazy in love as with Heroes of Might and Magic despite Davros bold claims, lulz. My large collection of PC games are a confirmation of that. And to discover the majesty of P.C Gaming
In regards to Heroes, I managed to run Heroes 3 at 4000x4000 using Heroes 3 HD utility. Unusable though, 'cos as Shifty explained once to me, resolution directly affects FOV in 2D, and since it is a 2D game, running it at 4000x4000 on a native 1366x768 display makes everything look so tiny that you just can see a window which is like 50x50 pixels in size.
Additionally, in Heroes of Might and Magic V, proper 3D game, I set the resolution to 2560x1600 without a hitch in performance, using windowed mode. It's even better in the expansion, the Tribes of the East, 'cos using the ini file you can set the internal resolution of the game and the size of the window that internal resolution is going to be displayed at.
I chose 2560x1600 as the internal resolution of the game, while running it on a 1280x720 window. Amazing stuff, and it merges perfectly with anything running on the OS. Easy to switch back and forth on Windows 8.
